Rejoice in the hope (Rom. 12:12).
Every day we make decisions that require strong faith. For example, we make decisions related to friendships, entertainment, education, marriage, children, and work. We can ask ourselves: “What do my decisions reflect? Do they show that I believe this system is temporary and will soon be replaced by God’s new world? Or are they similar to those of people who think this life is all there is?” (Matt. 6:19, 20; Luke 12:16–21) If we strengthen our faith that the new world is near, we will make the best decisions. We also face trials that require strong faith, such as persecution, chronic illness, or any other situation that could demoralize us. At first, we may face the trial with determination. But if it drags on, as it often does, we will need strong faith to endure and continue serving Jehovah with joy.—1 Pet. 1:6, 7. w23.04 27 pars. 4, 5.
Why do we need strong faith when we go through trials? Give an example.
We also face trials that require strong faith, such as persecution, chronic illness, or any other situation that could demoralize us. At first, we may face the trial with determination. But if it drags on, as it often does, we will need strong faith to endure and continue serving Jehovah with joy. (Rom. 12:12; 1 Pet. 1:6, 7)
When we are going through a trial, we may feel that Jehovah will never bring about the new world. Is our faith weak if we think this way? Not necessarily. Let's take an example. When we are enduring a very cold winter, we may think that summer will never come. But summer always comes. Similarly, when we are deeply discouraged, we may feel that the new world will never arrive. But if our faith is strong, we know that Jehovah's promises will be fulfilled. (Ps. 94:3, 14, 15; Heb. 6:17-19) That confidence will help us continue to put our worship of Jehovah first.
What attitude should we avoid?
We also need to have a strong faith to preach. When we talk about the new world that God will soon bring, many people think this good news is too good to be true (Matt. 24:14; Ezek. 33:32). But we must never allow that skeptical or unbelieving attitude to take hold. To prevent that from happening, we must continue to strengthen our faith. Let's look at three things we can do.
