Explain your beliefs (4 mins.) Role-play. ijwbq article 159. Topic: Do animals go to heaven? (lmd lesson 3 point 4).
Setting: The publisher spontaneously visits a friend who lives nearby and finds her saddened by the recent death of her pet. The friend sincerely asks if animals go to heaven. The publisher responds with respect and compassion, showing from the Bible who receives the promise of heaven.
Publisher(s): Hey, [Name]! I was passing by and thought I'd stop by and say hi. How have you been?
Assistant: Hello, [Name]. Nice to see you, but I'm not feeling very well.
Publisher(s): Oh, what happened, [Name]?
Assistant: It's that Toby, our dog, died. He'd been with us for years… he was part of the family.
Publisher(s): Oh, [Name], I'm so sorry. I truly understand how painful it is to lose such a beloved pet. They're a part of your life… and your family.
Assistant: Yes, it's been very difficult for me. And you know what? That's exactly why I wanted to ask you something. Since you're one of Jehovah's Witnesses, maybe you can answer me.
Publisher(s): Sure, let me know. Whatever I can do to help you, I'd be happy to.
Assistant: Do you think animals go to heaven? I'd like to think Toby is in a better place.
Publisher(s): I understand, [Name]. I've loved my pets very much too, and it's only natural to want them to be well. If you'd like, we can go over together what the Bible says about who goes to heaven. Does that sound okay?
Assistant: Yes, of course. I'd like to know.
Publisher(s): Look, in Revelation 14:1 it says, "Then I saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him 144,000 having His name and His Father's name written on their foreheads."
Assistant: It says here that there are 144,000 people. No mention of animals.
Publisher(s): That's right. The Bible teaches that, of all living beings, only a limited number of humans will go to heaven. It doesn't mention animals, and these people had to meet certain requirements to receive this special invitation.
Assistant: What requirements?
Publisher(s): One of them is in John 3:16. Look: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that no one who shows faith in him should be destroyed but have eternal life."
That is, they had to show faith in Jesus, obey his commandments, learn from the Bible… things that, as we know, animals cannot do.
Assistant: Of course, animals cannot read or learn from the Bible or have faith.
Publisher(s): Exactly. So, according to the Bible, animals don't go to heaven. But that doesn't mean God doesn't care about them. In fact, he values how we treat them.
Assistant: Seriously? I didn't know the Bible talked about that.
Publisher(s): Look at this text in Proverbs 12:10. Would you like to read it yourself?
Assistant: "The righteous take care of their domestic animals, but even the wicked have mercy on them." Wow! I didn't know that.
Publisher(s): This means that God values how we treat our animals. If you took good care of Toby, as I see you did, that's something that puts you in good stead with God.
Assistant: Thank you, [Name]. That makes me feel better… knowing that God notices those things.
Publisher(s): Yes, He cares about everything we do. And tell me, besides dogs, what other animal would you like to have as a pet?
Assistant: Oh, I've always loved raccoons, but of course, it's impossible to have one as a pet.
Publisher(s): You know, there's something interesting about the future Jehovah promises us. One day you'll be able to play and carry a raccoon without any problems. If you'd like, I can come back another day to talk more about that subject and the wonderful future that awaits us.
Assistant: Really? That sounds wonderful! Yes, [Name], I'd love for you to come tell me more.
Publisher(s): Of course. Let me know when it's convenient for you, and I'll be happy to stop by.
Assistant: Perfect. I'll see you soon then. Thanks for visiting, it really helped me a lot today.
Publisher(s): I'm glad I could cheer you up, [Name]. Have a nice day.
Assistant: Like you, [Name]. See you soon!
