Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2025

Wednesday, May 28, 2025

Be very careful not to act like fools, but like wise people, making the best use of your time (Eph. 5:15, 16).

Those who are married can learn a lot from the example of Aquila and Priscilla, a beloved first-century couple (Rom. 16:3, 4). They worked together, preached together, and helped others together (Acts 18:2, 3, 24-26). In fact, whenever the Bible mentions Aquila and Priscilla, they were together. How can those who are married imitate them? Think of all the activities each of you has to do. Could you handle some of these tasks together, instead of separately? For example, Aquila and Priscilla preached together. Do you have the habit of doing the same? Aquila and Priscilla also worked together. Sure, you and your husband or wife may not have the same job. But what if you do household chores together? (Eccl. 4:9) Helping each other will help you feel like a team and give you a chance to talk. w23.05 22, 23 pars. 10-12.

How can married people apply what Ephesians 5:15, 16 says?

Spending time together may require careful planning; it's best not to leave it to chance (read Ephesians 5:15, 16). A brother from Nigeria named Uzondu says, “When I make my schedule, I include time with my wife. To me, that time is sacred” (Phil. 1:10). Consider the example of Anastasia, the wife of a circuit overseer in Moldova. She explains how she makes the most of her time: “I do my own thing while my husband attends to his responsibilities. That way, we can spend time together afterward.” Now, what if you have a busy schedule and struggle to find time together?

What activities did Aquila and Priscilla do together?

Those who are married can learn much from the example of Aquila and Priscilla, a beloved first-century couple (Rom. 16:3, 4). Although the Bible doesn't give many details about their marriage, it does say that they worked together, preached together, and helped others together (Acts 18:2, 3, 24-26). In fact, whenever the Bible mentions Aquila and Priscilla, they were together.

How can married people imitate Aquila and Priscilla's example? Think about all the activities each of you has to do. Could you handle some of these tasks together, instead of separately? For example, Aquila and Priscilla preached together. Do you have the habit of doing the same things? Aquila and Priscilla also worked together. Of course, you and your husband or wife may not have the same job. But what if you do the housework together? (Eccl. 4:9) If you help each other, you'll feel like a team and have the opportunity to talk. Robert and Linda have been married for more than 50 years. He says, "The truth is, we don't have much free time. But when I'm washing the dishes and my wife is drying them, or when I'm working in the garden and she comes to help me, I feel very happy. Doing things together unites us, and our love continues to grow."

What do husband and wife have to do if they want to be truly united?

Don't forget this: being together isn't always the same as being close. A married sister from Brazil says, “With so many distractions, it's easy to think that since we're living under the same roof, we're already spending time together. But I've realized that being together is only half the battle. The other half is giving my husband the attention he needs.” Look at what Bruno and his wife, Tays, have done to check in on each other. He explains, “To enjoy our time together, we put away our phones.”
