TREASURES FROM GOD'S WORD, May 5-11, 2025, Hard work pays off, Prepared Speech.
Hard work pays off (10 mins.)
Every day, when the alarm clock rings and the light filters through our window, a fertile field opens before us in which to sow effort, character and faith. The theme that today reminds us that hard work has its reward is not just a popular proverb, but a divine principle that beats strongly in the Scriptures and in the real lives of Jehovah's servants.
Working hard is much more than earning your bread: it is reflecting the honesty of our Creator, dignifying the family and opening your hand to those in need. The Bible recognizes the nobility of manual and mental work.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 12:11
He who cultivates his land will be satisfied with bread, but he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.
Jehovah, the producer of all good things, honors those who roll up their sleeves and do their best at their craft. He himself put Adam in a garden to cultivate and care for it, showing that work was not a punishment, but an ennobling gift.
We live in an era that promises shortcuts, quick profits, and instant fame. However, many discover too late that such worthless things exhaust the mind and empty the soul. The inspired counsel of Proverbs 12:11 protects us like a fence, reminding us that he who pursues empty dreams neglects the fields that can truly bear fruit.
When we focus our hands on productive tasks, the heart is also filled with satisfaction and peace.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 12:24
The working hands will be in charge, but the idle hands will have to do hard labor.
Diligence opens doors, inspires confidence, and provides stability. It is no coincidence that responsible people end up directing projects, serving clients and making decisions that influence others. When a Christian stands out for his ethics, he honors the name of Jehovah, who loves the truth deeply.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 12:14
Thanks to the fruit of his words, man is satisfied with good, and the work of his hands will reward him.
The proverb we just read says: “The work of his hands will reward him.” In what way?
First: Our family receives what God considers basic: food, shelter and a safe roof. But he also benefits from example. A son who sees his father sweating in the carpentry shop or his mother persevering in her business learns that effort is a gift, not a burden.
Shane, a brother who grew up watching his father a carpenter, comments: “From him I learned to love manual work and to build something useful for others.”
Second: Our efforts allow us to help those in need. Paul exhorted: “Work this hard to help those who are weak.” When we manage our resources well, we set aside something to distribute to someone in need. In this way, we transform hours of work into smiles, food and relief for others.
What a privilege to experience the joy of giving! While the world proclaims that happiness lies in receiving, Jesus affirmed the opposite: “There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.”
When we remember who our sweat benefits—clients, bosses, family members, the poor—each task takes on a different glow. Even repetitive tasks take on meaning, as they become offerings of love and gratitude to Jehovah.
Hard work is not a millstone around your neck, but a key that unlocks treasures of self-esteem, provision, and generosity.
Proverbs 12:11 urges us to cultivate our soil; Proverbs 12:24 exalts diligent hands; and Proverbs 12:14 promises a tangible and profound reward.
Therefore, let each blow of the hammer, each report completed, each table served, be a note in the symphony of praise that we raise to our God. In doing so, we will discover that the greatest payment does not always come in bills, but in the smile of a satisfied child, in the gratitude of a helped neighbor, and above all, in the approval of Jehovah, who does not forget the work and the love that we show.
So, let us work hard and with the joy of knowing that every effort made with honesty and faith is never in vain before God.
In the illustration in our activity guide, we see an exemplary Christian carrying plumbing tools on his shoulder, a symbol of his daily work. Scenes unfold around him that reveal how his efforts impact many areas: we see him in the workshop adjusting a pipe, in the Kingdom Hall participating with enthusiasm, and conversing with a companion while sharing good advice.
The composition conveys the idea that diligent work does not remain locked in the factory or office, but rather enriches spiritual life, strengthens the family and allows us to reach out to others. Thus, the image conveys the message of Proverbs 12:14: “The work of your hands will reward you,” reminding us that sweat, mixed with faith and generosity, produces fruit that lasts.
