“Collect my tears in your wineskin. Aren't they written down in your book? (PSA. 56:8).
1, 2. What situations could make us cry?
Tears are a natural way to express both joy and pain. In happy moments, our tears can be a reflection of gratitude and love. However, the tears that arise from suffering reveal how vulnerable we are to emotional and physical pain.
Jeremiah, a prophet who loved his people deeply, shed tears as he saw the destruction of Jerusalem. Its expression in Lamentations 3:48,49 highlights how suffering can be overwhelming, but also shows that it is normal to feel and express our emotions.
Verses such as Psalm 34:18 remind us that our tears never go unnoticed by Jehovah, who understands us, comforts us, and saves us.
3. How does Jehovah feel when he sees his servants suffer? (Isaiah 63:9).
Jehovah, like a loving father, is deeply moved when he sees his children crying. The Bible, in Isaiah 63:9, reminds us that he not only hears our pleas, but he feels our pain as if it were his own. This text highlights that, in the distress of His people, He Himself became distressed, reflecting an intense emotional connection and a genuine commitment to care for us.
Jehovah acts to comfort and strengthen his servants, whether through his word, his holy spirit, or the support of our fellow believers. Psalm 34:15 reinforces that Jehovah is attentive and ready to help us at any time. This reminds us that we are never alone in our trials and that our suffering never goes unnoticed by Him.
4. What Bible examples will we analyze, and what will we learn about Jehovah?
We will look at the examples of Hannah, David, and Hezekiah, which highlight how Jehovah responds compassionately when his servants cry. These examples show that Jehovah values our emotions and is always ready to help us. Furthermore, they teach us that Jehovah is a God who is close, attentive, and powerful in providing comfort.
TEARS FOR SADNESS
5. How did Ana feel?
Ana faced deep emotional pain in her daily life. Her husband, in addition to being married to her, was married to PeninĂ¡, who not only despised Ana, but sought to hurt her emotionally, highlighting her sterility. Although her husband, Elkanah, tried to console her, telling her that his love was enough, Ana continued to feel incomplete and belittled. In her desperation, Ana not only cried, but even stopped eating.
6. What did Ana do to feel better?
Ana faced her pain by turning to the only one who could understand her completely: Jehovah. His decision to go to the tabernacle and pray fervently shows his confidence in the power of prayer. In her supplication, Hannah not only expressed her sadness, but she asked Jehovah to remember her and care for her suffering. This example teaches us that prayer is not only a means to ask for help, but also a way to strengthen our relationship with Jehovah.
7. How did Hannah feel after opening her heart to Jehovah?
Hannah, after her sincere prayer and receiving spiritual support from the high priest Eli, felt emotionally renewed. The story shows how his faith in Jehovah allowed him to leave sadness behind and resume his life with a lighter heart. This change demonstrates the power of prayer and trusting Jehovah completely, even when problems persist.
Not only did Hannah find immediate comfort, but in due time, Jehovah responded to her plea by blessing her with children. Their experience teaches us that Jehovah not only hears our prayers, but also acts on our behalf at the appropriate time.
8, 9. According to Hebrews 10:24, 25, why should we make every effort to go to meetings? (See also the image).
When we face times of great sadness, it may be tempting to isolate ourselves, but meetings are one of the ways Jehovah comforts us. Hannah's example shows that seeking Jehovah in moments of sadness gives us peace. Hebrews 10:24,25 highlights the importance of encouraging one another and never stopping meeting together.
The Bible texts read and discussed at meetings help us focus our minds on the hope that Jehovah offers. Additionally, the brotherly love we experience in the kingdom hall can be a source of strength. For example, one special pioneer commented that although he continues to cry over the loss of his wife, he always finds encouragement and peace when he attends meetings.
ILLUSTRATION
At a Kingdom Hall, a group of brothers and sisters are comforting an older brother who is very sad. The brothers comfort us. (See paragraphs 8 and 9).
10. How can we follow Ana's example in moments of deep sadness?
Hannah's example teaches us that opening our hearts to Jehovah in prayer is a powerful means of finding comfort. The Bible assures us that he is a compassionate God who understands our struggles and never abandons us. Like Hannah, after praying, we will feel relief, even if circumstances do not change immediately.
The story of a sister who lost her husband confirms this truth. Despite her immense pain, she found peace in Jehovah. Praying allowed him to cope with the anguish and receive the peace of mind that only God can give. Therefore, it is important to remember that Jehovah not only listens, but also strengthens us and helps us endure. Even if the problem persists, feeling your support motivates us to move forward with faith and hope.
TEARS FOR A BETRAYAL
11. How did David feel when others treated him badly?
Throughout his life, David suffered rejection, betrayal, and persecution. The situation with King Saul, who saw him as a threat and wanted to kill him, forced him to flee and live as a fugitive. Later, the betrayal of his own son Absalom and the rebellion he led plunged him into great sadness. David did not hide his pain; He expressed his emotions sincerely, saying that he cried until his bed was soaked. This story reminds us that it is normal to feel anguish in the face of betrayal or abuse, but it also encourages us to turn to Jehovah, who understands our pain and gives us strength to move forward.
12. According to Psalm 56:8, what was David convinced of?
David suffered many adversities, but he never doubted Jehovah's love. In Psalm 56:8, he uses poetic language to describe how much God cares for us. The image of Jehovah collecting our tears in a wineskin symbolizes that He not only knows our problems, but also values each of our emotions. This psalm reminds us that Jehovah is a compassionate father who does not ignore the suffering of his servants, but listens to them and comforts them. Just as David found relief by trusting in Jehovah, we too can feel his closeness when we open our hearts to him in prayer.
13. What can comfort us if someone disappointed us or betrayed us? (See also the image).
Betrayal and abandonment can be devastating experiences. However, the Bible assures us that Jehovah will never leave us alone. He is a faithful and just God who remains close to those who serve him loyally. The example of the brother who was betrayed by his wife teaches us a valuable lesson: people can fail us, but Jehovah never will.
By focusing on our relationship with God, we can find emotional stability and peace, even in times of great sadness. Knowing that Jehovah understands our pain and gives us strength to move forward is a great comfort. Furthermore, He surrounds us with a spiritual family that supports us and encourages us when we need it.
ILLUSTRATION
A brother is clutching his wedding ring with a worried face as he meditates on some of the things that King David experienced. The book of Psalms assures us that Jehovah is close to those who are heartbroken. (See paragraph 13).
14. What does Psalm 34:18 assure us?
When we face the pain of betrayal or hopelessness, we can feel as if there is nothing good to look forward to. However, Psalm 34:18 reminds us that Jehovah is not indifferent to our suffering. He is close to those who are heartbroken and gives them his support and comfort. Throughout the Bible, Jehovah has shown his tenderness and love toward his servants who have gone through difficult times.
Like a father who protects and comforts his child, God surrounds us with his love and gives us strength to move forward. Furthermore, as mentioned in Isaiah 65:17, it offers us a sure hope for the future. Knowing that Jehovah will eliminate all suffering and give us a life full of happiness helps us endure current trials with patience and confidence.
TEARS FOR DESPERATION
15. What situation caused King Hezekiah to cry uncontrollably?
When Hezekiah knew he was going to die, his reaction was one of deep pain. Not only did he fear for his own life, but he may also have been concerned for the future of the kingdom of Judah and the fulfillment of Jehovah's promise regarding the Davidic lineage.
At that time, he did not have a son who could succeed him, which could pose a threat to the stability of the kingdom. Despite his despair, Hezekiah did not simply lament. Instead, he turned to Jehovah in prayer, poured out his heart before God, and begged Him with tears for help.
His faith and trust in Jehovah were evident in his attitude. This story teaches us that when we face difficult trials, we must not lose hope. In due time, Jehovah can provide us with the relief we need, just as he did for Hezekiah by extending his life.
16. When Jehovah heard Hezekiah's prayer and saw his tears, what did he feel and what did he do for him?
Jehovah, who is a compassionate God, not only heard Hezekiah's plea, but was also moved by his pain. In an act of mercy, Jehovah responded immediately through Isaiah, assuring him that he would heal him and grant him 15 more years of life. But their love was not limited only to Hezekiah's personal life; He also promised to protect Jerusalem from the imminent danger of the Assyrians. This story highlights that Jehovah is not insensitive to our suffering. He listens to us, understands us and acts according to his purpose.
17. How does Jehovah support us when we have serious health problems? (Psalm 41:3; see also the image).
Jehovah is the God of all comfort, which means that no matter what difficulty we face, He is willing to help us. When we have serious health problems, one of the best things we can do is turn to Him in prayer. Although he does not eliminate our ailments immediately, he does sustain us through his holy spirit, giving us emotional and spiritual strength. Psalm 41:3 assures us that Jehovah cares for the sick and sustains them on their bed of pain. This is proof of his love and tender concern for each of us.
ILLUSTRATION
Series of images: 1. A sister prays intensely while receiving chemotherapy treatment. 2. King Hezekiah pleads with Jehovah while he is sick in his bed. Jehovah answers our prayers by giving us strength, wisdom and inner peace. (See paragraph 17).
18. What biblical text has helped you in a particularly complicated situation? (See the box “Words with which Jehovah dries our tears.”)
The Scriptures assure us that Jehovah understands our pain and desires to comfort us. In difficult times his word is an inexhaustible source of strength. Romans 15:4 reminds us that the Bible was written to give us encouragement and hope. The sister mentioned in the paragraph found great comfort in Isaiah 26:3, which says: “You will give continuous peace to him who relies on you, because he trusts in you.” Like this sister, we can find countless texts in the Bible that will comfort us. This teaches us that although we cannot always change our circumstances, we can find peace by trusting in Jehovah.
19. What reward awaits us?
Jehovah promises us that our pain will not last forever. The prophecy of Revelation 21:4 assures us that, in the new world, there will be no more suffering or death, and Jehovah will dry all our tears. In this world full of difficulties, it is normal to feel discouraged, but the key is to continue trusting in Jehovah and his comfort.
To receive the reward that Jehovah promises us, we must remain faithful, seek his guidance in the Bible, and not isolate ourselves from the congregation. If we do, we will see the day when there will be only tears of joy and we will enjoy a perfect life.
