Principles of Divine Survival

Jehovah's servants are very hard-working. As Jehovah's organization continues to grow, the need to select and train brothers to be overseers is ever greater. The February 2024 Watchtower Study explained that for years members of the governing body have been training men who are from the other sheep to lead the work. For example, schools have been set up to train elders, circuit overseers, branch committee members, overseers, etc.

So for this reason, at the 2022 annual meeting a new school was announced: “Principles of Divine Superintendence”, the superintendents and also those in construction, as well as young brothers with potential, will learn to be superintendents who follow the example of our God Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ our King, let's take a look at this very motivating course.

This 4.5-day course includes recorded speeches from the governing body and sound advice from experienced superintendents from around the world. It also has 12 very practical workshops where students talk, interact, and everyone participates and gives very interesting comments.

These 12 workshops are divided into three parts: “Select, Train, and Trust,” so although the goal of the school is to help overseers improve their skills, they also have to make sure to do these three things: first, they have to select or find brothers who have the potential to be overseers, train them, make a plan and strive to follow it, and trust them by giving them more tasks and responsibilities and sharing their experience with them.

In the part of the workshops where we all interacted, we all had to, we had a lot to improve and when you talk to more experienced brothers, you realize that they have the same challenges as you. These were great conversations, we learned some neutral things and we encouraged each other to continue forward.

In addition to the great discussions, there are 70 very realistic videos, showing good and not so good examples of how overseers can handle situations both at Bethel and at the construction site. For example, what they can do when they feel overwhelmed, such as shepherding external and remote volunteers, or how to delegate tasks just as Jehovah and Jesus Christ do. Books of Jehovah

In addition to superintendents and their assistants, young people with potential are also invited to come to the school, but why open the doors and give the opportunity to these young people who are not yet superintendents?

Nowadays, more and more responsibilities are being entrusted to younger and younger brothers, and the training they receive at this school will help them to fulfill those responsibilities well. It was recommended that superintendents and assistant superintendents attend, but also that younger and less experienced brothers be invited, and that is a good mix, experience and inexperience, and so you have a very balanced class in which they can learn from each other.

Since I have little experience, I was initially very surprised to be invited, but at school I could see that Jehovah was investing a lot in me, and that encouraged me to make an effort and try to give back a little of what he had given me. 

Although customs vary from country to country, the principles of Divine superintendence are universal and apply in all countries. Students have benefited and something has been noticed in the branches.

School helped me understand that in order to complete my assignment, I don't just have to worry about deadlines or getting work done, there is much more. They reminded us that Jehovah's priority has always been the well-being of his people, so that must be my priority, the people, because people are more important than efficiency, productivity, and school showed me that I have a lot to improve. For example, I have to help the brothers and sisters enjoy their assignment more, train them and delegate tasks, get to know them better, know their circumstances, and support them because if the brothers are happy, the work flows smoothly. I have always worked very well with my superintendent, but since he came from school, working with him has been even better. One change I have noticed in him is how he answers my questions. For example, he takes the time to listen to me, and he not only pays attention to what I say, but also to the feelings I express, then he asks me, “What do you think?” “What can we do?” I know that my superintendent trusts me and values ​​my opinions, because he often takes them into account, even if he doesn’t, the way he listens to me makes me feel valued.

Normally when someone wants to learn to be a supervisor or manager it takes them many years and they have to study a lot of books, but this school is special, because we learn how to do it in just one week. At school I learned what the priorities of a good superintendent should be, that what is important is not only the work, but the people, and that we have to be shepherds like Jehovah and train those we supervise.

I liked the emphasis that was placed on the fact that a superintendent must be a caring pastor, the most important thing in his department is the people, Jesus gave his life for people, not for a job.

Now the brothers can see their role as overseers and pastors in a different way, both in Bethel and its departments and in the congregations in which they serve. It is clear that Jehovah is using this school to help us fulfill our work today, but He will also continue to use it in the new world so that we can fulfill our work.

The school has given a new air to the departments and its benefits have been felt in all the branches, and this has been noted throughout the brotherhood. Jehovah promised in Isaiah 60:17, I will bring gold instead of copper and silver instead of iron copper instead of wood and iron instead of stones and I will appoint peace as your overseers and justice as your managers. When mentioning the overseers and those in charge, Jehovah foretold that better ones would come, that his people would be increasingly organized and better cared for, and this has happened. The school for overseers is a valuable tool, it is helping brothers from all over the world, both in Bethel and in the construction projects, to lovingly carry out their work. 

It is evident that the governing body is determined to prepare competent brothers from the other sheep, so that they will lead Jehovah's people even after the Anointed Ones have been taken to heaven. How good Jehovah is, how grateful we are that he trains the brothers who lead us.
