TREASURES FROM GOD'S WORD: November 4-10, 2024, “He Always Remembers His Covenant.” Prepared Speech.

“He always remembers his covenant” (10 mins.)

Today in this section of Bible treasures entitled, “He Always Remembers His Covenant,” we are going to talk about a topic that fills our hearts with comfort and security: Jehovah’s loyalty to his promises.

The Bible assures us that he never forgets what he promises, and this is the case of the covenant he made with Abraham and then repeated with Isaac and Jacob. A covenant can be a mutual agreement between two interested parties to a promise on the part of one of them to do something for the other. We could illustrate it as a contract, Jehovah is the main contractor and the secondary contractors are the people of God, the requirements are obedience, fidelity, love and dedication.

The characteristics of the contract are that it is irrevocable, that is, it cannot be annulled, it is eternal, without a time limit. This shows that the relationship between Jehovah and his people is irrevocable, highlighting their mutual commitment and God's faithfulness, since, "He always remembers his covenant." Jehovah made a promise to Abraham and repeated it to Isaac. This covenant is a powerful example of how Jehovah faithfully fulfills his word in Genesis 15:18 we read.

LET'S READ GENESIS 15:18.

18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:

As we noted, Jehovah made a promise to give Abraham's descendants all the land of Canaan. In the image we can see the promised land Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Here Jehovah not only promised Abraham a land, but he gave him his word, and when Jehovah gives his word, nothing, nor anyone, can prevent its fulfillment. Although Abraham did not see the total fulfillment of this promise in his lifetime, he trusted in Jehovah's faithfulness and that faith was rewarded later in Genesis 26:3. Jehovah reiterates this promise to Isaac.

LET'S READ GENESIS 26:3.

3 Stay here as a foreigner in this country, and I will continue with you and bless you. I will give all these lands to you and your descendants.

Jehovah shows Isaac that his covenant is firm and not dependent on changing circumstances. Even though Isaac was living as a foreigner in a land he did not yet possess, he could trust that Jehovah was with him and would fulfill his promise in due time and in Genesis 28:13 Jehovah tells Jacob.

LET'S READ GENESIS 28:13.

“I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. The land where you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants.

We see how this covenant remains alive, how Jehovah remembers his promise and transmits it from generation to generation, showing that he does not change and that he is a loyal and true God. But brothers, perhaps we wonder: How do we know that Jehovah always remembers his covenant? In Psalm 105:8-11 we find a moving answer.

LET'S READ PSALM 105:8-11.

He remembers his covenant forever, remembering for a thousand generations the promise he made, 9 the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac, 10 which he established as a statute for Jacob and a lasting covenant for Israel, 11 saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan; it is your inheritance.”

Jehovah not only remembers his promise, but he keeps it active as if it were new. This covenant is an inheritance, it is something that Jehovah considers as something sacred that he will take care of forever, however this promise seemed impossible to fulfill at certain times, why does Psalm 105 12 to 13 tell us.

LET'S READ PSALM 105:12,13.

This was when they were few, yes, very few, and strangers in that land. 13 They went from nation to nation, from kingdom to kingdom.

Here we see that Abraham's people were small, weak, and lived as foreigners. In fact, Abraham's descendants, the Israelites, became slaves in Egypt. It would not have been easy to think that this promise would never be fulfilled. Yet, Jehovah kept his word when he told Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son in their old age. Perhaps it seemed improbable, but it became a reality. In the same way, when Jehovah promised them that their descendants would receive the land of Canaan even after the years of slavery in Egypt, Jehovah never forgot his covenant.

Jehovah has also made promises to his people today. Seeing that he faithfully kept his promises in the past, we are assured that he will also keep his promises to us today. In Joshua 23:14, we see that none of the good promises Jehovah God has made to them have failed, they have all been fulfilled.

This means that just like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, we can trust that Jehovah will fulfill his promises to us. Isaiah 55:10-1 says that Jehovah's word never returns without having fulfilled its purpose. This fact strengthens our faith that the new world that he has promised is a future, sure reality. Jehovah himself guarantees that these words are faithful and true, so we know that paradise is not a dream, nor a fantasy, it is a promise. Jehovah never forgot his covenant with Abraham and Psalm 105:42-44 confirms this to us.

LET'S READ PSALM 105:42-44.

For he remembered the holy promise he had made to his servant Abraham. 43 Then he brought out his people, who were radiant with joy; he brought out his chosen ones, who were shouting for joy. 44 He gave them the lands of the nations—they inherited what other peoples had produced by their hard work.

This Psalm makes us see the joy that the people of Israel experienced when they received the land that Jehovah had promised them. It is tangible proof that Jehovah keeps his word. All creation is subject to the word of God. He uses everything at his disposal to fulfill his purposes, as Isaiah 40:8 declares. His word will last until time indefinite. His power is so great that nothing and no one can prevent him from fulfilling what he promises, and his word will never return void.

Brothers, let us ask ourselves: What effect does it have on me to know that I can always trust in Jehovah? Knowing that Jehovah always remembers his promises should fill our hearts with peace and confidence, allowing us to face challenges with hope, with the assurance that we are in the hands of a God who never fails.

Let us remember that we are not alone, we always have someone to trust, our loving God has given us his word,  the Bible , that is the basis of our trust in him. Knowing that he fulfills all his promises, and controls all creation, which gives us security and hope. By trusting in Jehovah, we find comfort and strength, since his will will always be fulfilled. This certainty inspires us to live with faith, obedience and gratitude towards him.

Therefore, let us keep our faith strong, let us remember Jehovah's covenant and how he has fulfilled his promises in the past, if he fulfilled his promises with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we can be sure that he will also fulfill his promises with us. Jehovah is faithful and always remembers his covenant. May this reflection strengthen our faith and motivate us to help others to trust in Jehovah because he always keeps his word.
