When you cry out for help, He will surely show you favor (Is. 30:19).
Isaiah assures us that Jehovah will listen attentively to our prayers and will answer them quickly. The prophet adds: “He will answer you as soon as he hears you.” These comforting words remind us that our Father is not only willing to come to the aid of those who ask him for help, but he wholeheartedly desires to do so. Doesn’t keeping this in mind help us endure with joy? Jehovah listens with interest to the prayers of each one of us. Why do we say this? In the first part of Isaiah chapter 30, Jehovah speaks of “you,” in the plural, because he is speaking to his people as a whole. But in verse 19 he speaks of “you” because he is speaking to his servants individually. Isaiah says: “You will surely cry no more,” “He will surely show you favor,” “He will answer you.” Because Jehovah is a loving Father, he cares about each one of us and answers our prayers personally. (Ps. 116:1; Isa. 57:15) w22.11 9 pars. 5, 6.
How do Isaiah and Jesus show the importance of praying persistently?
When we pray to our God about something that worries us, the first thing he may do is give us strength to endure the situation. And if the trial does not go away as quickly as we would like, we may have to ask him many times for strength to endure. In fact, that is what he himself encourages us to do. This is the message conveyed by these words of Isaiah: “Give him”—that is, Jehovah—no rest. (Isa. 62:7) What does this mean? That our prayers must be so insistent that, so to speak, we do not give Jehovah any rest. This reminds us of something Jesus said about prayer in Luke 11:8-10, 13. Using various comparisons, he encouraged us to pray “with persistence and boldness” and to continue asking for holy spirit. We can also ask Jehovah to guide us in making good decisions.
How were the words of Isaiah 30:20, 21 fulfilled?
(Read Isaiah 30:20, 21.) The Babylonian army surrounded Jerusalem for a year and a half. During that time, the Jews suffered so much that anguish became as common as bread and water. But according to verses 20 and 21, Jehovah promised them that he would save them if they repented and changed their ways. Isaiah said that Jehovah was the “Great Instructor” of his people and promised them that Jehovah would teach them to worship him in his way. These words were fulfilled when the Jews were freed from Babylon. Jehovah proved that he was their Great Instructor. Thanks to his guidance, the Jews were able to restore pure worship. Today, Jehovah is also our Great Instructor, and that makes us very happy.
What is one way Jehovah guides us today?
It is a great honor to be taught by Jehovah. In these verses, Isaiah compares us to students who are taught by Jehovah in two ways. First, Isaiah says: “You will see your Great Instructor with your own eyes.” In this comparison, the instructor is standing before his students. How does Jehovah teach us today? Through his organization. We are so grateful for the clear teaching that his organization gives us through meetings, conventions, publications, JW Broadcasting® programs, and many other ways. All of this guidance helps us to endure difficult times with joy.
How do we hear the voice of God behind us?
Isaiah shows the second way Jehovah teaches us when he says: “You will hear with your own ears these words behind you.” Now the prophet presents Jehovah as an instructor who walks behind his students, watching their steps and guiding them so they know where to go. How do we hear God’s voice behind us today? By reading the Bible . The inspired words of God were written in the Bible many years ago. So when we read it, it is as if we hear Jehovah’s voice speaking to us from behind, from back in time. (Isaiah 51:4)
