Publisher: Hey neighbor Sara. What a coincidence that we met on the bus. How are you? Are you going home?
Assistant: How are you, neighbor Marta? Yes, a coincidence. And yes, I'm already on my way home. And you can say that I'm fine, thanks for asking.
Publisher: I mean, you can say that he's fine. Is something wrong with him? Is his family okay? If there's anything I can do to help you, count on me.
Assistant: No, neighbor Marta. My family is fine, nothing new. It's just that today I was invited to listen to a Bible sermon and I thought it would be nice to hear something that comes from God. But more than an animal, believe me, it scared me a lot.
Publisher: Were you scared by what you heard from the Bible? And what did you hear? Assistant: Well, among many other things they said, that if one does not repent, one will suffer eternally. They spoke to the people who were there as if we were the worst sinners and would not have salvation.
Publisher: Now I understand why something that should have encouraged you has made you afraid of what the Bible and God say.
Assistant: Yes. That's how I feel. And what's more, now that I think about it, when we've talked with you, the words you've used in the Bible have been very encouraging to me, different from what I've just heard. Why do some say one thing and others are negative and try to scare us into coming closer to God?
Publisher: Well, maybe it's the way they approach fear. Because they know that although they seem contradictory, to get closer to God we must love Him and fear Him.
Helper: How should we love and fear God?
Publisher: I will answer you with the Bible. Look what it says is 12:13……………… Neighbor Sara, when you read this biblical text, what does it say about the fear of God?
Assistant: You say that we should fear God, which you describe as an obligation for all of us. Do you mean that what they told me a little while ago is what we should feel, fear of God?
Publisher: Well, let's read another text before answering your question. Matthew 22:37 says... Now, what does this text mention about the feeling we should have toward God?
Assistant: Here it says to love God with all your heart. So how is it that you have to fear Him and love Him?
Publisher: Very well. The fear of God is a godly fear, that is, a healthy fear of not doing something that will not cause sadness.
Assistant: Well that sounds better.
Publisher: And as for the love we have for him, it is the way of reciprocating everything he has shown us throughout history to all human beings, regardless of how we have behaved. It is like when a son respects and fears his father so as not to offend him, and because he knows that the father has beautiful feelings towards the son.
Assistant: Well, now I understand that we must fear God so that he feels good about our behavior, so that we do not do anything to offend him. And for that, give him all our love, because he has always been such a good God to us. Is that so, neighbor?
Publisher: Yes, that's right. You understood it perfectly. You see, when we read the Bible and understand it, our way of thinking changes completely. That's why I've been constantly talking to you about a Bible course. It helps us see God as He really is and understand His Word correctly.
Helper: Neighbor Martha, I see that I need to understand the Bible and I know that this will help me both in my family life and as a person. When can I show you how to do this Bible course and see if I decide to take it?
