Truth is the very essence of your word (Ps. 119:160).
The conditions of this world will go from bad to worse, and our faith in the truth will be tested. People may try to make us doubt that the Bible tells the truth and that Jehovah has appointed a faithful and wise slave to lead his people. But, if we are convinced that God's Word always tells the truth, we will resist these attacks. We will be determined to obey Jehovah’s standards “all the time, to the end” (Ps. 119:112). We will not be ashamed to tell others about the truth and encourage them to follow the counsel of the Bible (Ps. 119:46). Furthermore, we will endure “with patience and happiness” even the most difficult trials, such as persecution (Col. 1:11; Ps. 119:143, 157). The truth gives us stability, a purpose in life and reliable guidance. It offers us a bright future under the Kingdom of God. w23.01 7 paras. 16, 17.
What do the Bible prophecies that have been fulfilled convince us?Knowing that there are many Bible prophecies that have already been fulfilled further convinces us that God's promises for the future will also be fulfilled. We feel like the psalm writer who said to Jehovah: “I long for your salvation, for your word is my hope” (Ps. 119:81). Through the Bible, Jehovah lovingly offers us “a future and a hope” (Jer. 29:11). Our hope for the future depends on Jehovah's promises, not on what human beings do. Let us continue studying biblical prophecies earnestly so that our confidence in the Word of God is stronger.
What is another reason to trust the Bible? (Psalm 119:66, 138).
Another reason to trust the Bible is that it helps people who follow its counsel (read Psalm 119:66, 138). For example, couples that were about to divorce are now happy and united. And the children of these Christian families live in a loving environment, where they feel safe and loved (Eph. 5:22-29).
What example shows that the advice of the Bible helps us to be better people?
Thanks to the wise counsel of the Bible, even dangerous criminals can change. Let's see the effect that this advice had on a prisoner named Jack. He was a violent criminal, and was known to be one of the most dangerous inmates of all those sentenced to death. But one day he sat down to listen to a Bible study. The kindness of the brothers touched him, so he too began to study. As he put the advice of the Bible into practice, his behavior and even his personality improved. In time, he qualified as an unbaptized publisher and was baptized. He spoke enthusiastically to other inmates about the Kingdom of God, and he helped at least four of them to know the truth. When the day of his execution came, Jack was a different man. One of his lawyers said: “Jack is not the same person I knew 20 years ago. What he learned with Jehovah's Witnesses has changed his life.” Although Jack was executed, his example is clear proof that we can trust God's Word and that it has the power to help us become better people (Is. 11:6-9).
Why are Jehovah's servants so different? (See the photographs).
As we put Bible truths into practice, Jehovah’s servants enjoy peace and unity.—John 13:35; 1 Cor. 1:10. This draws a lot of attention, especially if we look at how divided the world is by political, racial or social issues. Our unit made a deep impression on a young African named Jean. When a civil war broke out in his country, he enlisted in the army, but then fled to a neighboring country, where he met Jehovah's Witnesses. Jean says: “I learned that those who practice true religion neither get involved in politics nor are divided. On the contrary, they love each other.” He adds: “I had dedicated my life to fighting for a country, but when I discovered the truth I decided to dedicate my life to Jehovah.” This young man totally changed. Instead of fighting against people of a different origin than his, he now teaches everyone the message of peace from the Bible. The fact that the advice of the Bible works so well on such different people is convincing proof that we can trust the Word of God.
