We all stumble many times (James 3:2).

Young man, until now you have studied the Bible a lot, perhaps for years, and that has convinced you that it is the Word of God. But the most important thing is that you know and love the author of that holy book. You love Jehovah so much that you made the decision to dedicate your life to him and get baptized. Glad you did it! Surely before your baptism you went through situations that tested your faith. But others will come as you grow spiritually. Satan will try to cool your love for Jehovah and turn you away from him (Eph. 4:14). Don't let him get away with it. What will help you be loyal to Jehovah and fulfill your dedication? You have to continue progressing, that is, moving “toward Christian maturity” (Heb. 6:1). w22.08 2 paras. 1, 2.

What should all Christians do after being baptized?

When someone is baptized, they should follow the advice that the apostle Paul gave to the Christians of Ephesus. He encouraged them to have “the maturity of a grown man” in a spiritual sense (Eph. 4:13). It is as if he had told them “Keep progressing.” Paul compared our spiritual progress to the physical growth of a child. A baby is the pride and joy of his parents, but he can't remain a baby all his life. In time he will have to leave behind “childish things” (1 Cor. 13:11). Something similar happens with Christians: after being baptized we must continue progressing. Let's look at some suggestions that will help you achieve this.

What quality will help you progress spiritually, and why? (Philippians 1:9).

Feed your love for Jehovah. It is clear that you love Jehovah very much. But that love can continue to grow. As? The apostle Paul mentioned one way to do this, and we find it in Philippians 1:9 (read it). Paul asked Jehovah to make the love of the Philippians “more and more abundant.” This means that the love we feel for God can grow. But we have to feed it “with accurate knowledge and full discernment.” That is, the more we know Jehovah, the more we love him and the more we like his personality and his way of doing things. We feel more like making him happy and for nothing in the world do we want to disappoint him. We strive to know what he expects of us and we look for a way to do it.

What is another way to nourish our love for Jehovah?

Another way to nourish our love for Jehovah is to better know his Son, who perfectly reflects the personality of his Father (Heb. 1:3). And the best way to know Jesus is by studying the four Gospels. Do you have a good habit of reading the Bible every day? If you don't have it yet, you can start now. When you read what Jesus did and said, look at his personality. He was an accessible and approachable person; He even took the little children in his arms (Mark 10: 13-16). He made his disciples feel comfortable when they were with him; That is why they told him freely what they thought (Matt. 16:22). Jesus was like that because his heavenly Father is like that. Jehovah is very accessible. That's why we can pray to him and tell him everything we have in our hearts. And we do it with the assurance that he will not think badly of us. He loves us and cares for us (1 Pet. 5:7).

Jesus felt sorry for the people. The apostle Matthew tells us: “When he saw the multitudes, he was deeply moved, because they were mistreated and abandoned like sheep without a shepherd” (Matt. 9:36). And how does Jehovah view people? Speaking of his Father, Jesus said, “He does not wish that even one of these little ones should perish” (Matt. 18:14). What joy it gives us to know that Jehovah loves us so much! When we know more about Jesus, our love for Jehovah becomes greater.

Why is it good for you to make friends with mature Christians?

There is something else you can do to grow your love for Jehovah and make spiritual progress. What is it? Make friends with mature brothers and sisters in your congregation. Notice that these brothers are always happy. They do not regret having decided to serve Jehovah. Ask them to tell you about some experiences they have had. And, when you have to make an important decision, talk to them for some advice. No wonder the Bible says: “With many counselors things go well” (Prov. 11:14).
