The earth will surely be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah (Is. 11:9).
Can we imagine how beautiful it will be the day when the resurrection begins here on Earth during the Millennial Reign of Christ? All of us who have lost loved ones want to see them again. And Jehovah desires it too (Job 14:15). Let's imagine how many happy reunions there will be all over the Earth. The “righteous,” who have their names written in the book of life, will receive “a resurrection of life” (Acts 24:15; John 5:29). Many of our loved ones may be among the first to be resurrected on Earth. Furthermore, the “unrighteous,” who did not have sufficient opportunity to know Jehovah or serve him faithfully before dying, will receive “a resurrection of judgment.” All of these resurrected ones will have much to learn (Is. 26:9; 61:11). That is why it will be necessary to launch the largest education program in all of history (Is. 11:10). w22.09 20 paras. 1, 2.
“THOSE WHO ARE ASLEEP IN THE DUST […] WILL WAKE UP”What does Daniel 12:1 say would happen at the end time?
(Read Daniel 12:1). The book of Daniel tells us the order in which some exciting events will occur at the end time. For example, Daniel 12:1 says that Michael, who is Jesus Christ, “stands for” God's people. This part of the prophecy began to be fulfilled in 1914, when Jesus was named King of God's heavenly Kingdom.
However, Daniel was also told that Jesus would arise during “a time of trouble such as has not been since a nation began to exist until that time.” This time of trouble is the “great tribulation” mentioned in Matthew 24:21. Jesus stands up, or defends the people of God, at the end of that time of trouble, that is, at Armageddon. The book of Revelation refers to these people as the “great crowd” coming “out of the great tribulation” (Rev. 7:9, 14).
What happens after the great multitude survives the great tribulation, and why do we say so?
(Read Daniel 12:2). What happens after the great crowd survives the time of trouble? The prophecy speaks of a resurrection. But it is not a symbolic or spiritual resurrection of God's servants that occurs during the last days, as we understood it before.c Rather, it refers to the resurrection that will take place in the new world. Why can we reach that conclusion? In Job 17:16 we also talk about “dust,” and there it is used as a synonym for “the Grave.” This tells us that Daniel 12:2 speaks of a literal resurrection that will occur when the last days end and after the battle of Armageddon.
In what sense will some be resurrected “to eternal life”? And why is this “a better resurrection”?
Now, what does Daniel 12:2 mean when it says that some will be resurrected “to eternal life”? It means that those who are resurrected and come to know, or continue to know, and obey Jehovah and Jesus during the 1,000 years will eventually receive eternal life (John 17:3). This will be “a better resurrection” than some humans experienced in the past (Heb. 11:35). Because? Because those imperfect human beings died again.
In what sense will some be resurrected “to eternal humiliation and contempt”?
But not all of the resurrected will take advantage of Jehovah's education program. Daniel's prophecy says that some will be resurrected “to eternal humiliation and contempt.” Because of their rebellious attitude, their names will not be in the book of life and they will not receive eternal life. They will suffer “eternal contempt” or destruction. So Daniel 12:2 is talking about the end result for all resurrected people, based on what they do after their resurrection (Rev. 20:12). Some will obtain eternal life, others will not.
