A war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels also fought, but they could not win, nor was there any room left for them in heaven (Rev. 12: 7, 8).

Satan lost the battle predicted in Revelation chapter 12, and he and his demons were cast down to the Earth. As this filled him with fury, he began to vent his anger against humanity. That is why the Bible says: “Woe to the land and the sea!” (Rev. 12:9-12). How do these prophecies help us? World events and the striking change in people's ways of being indicate that Jesus is already King. That's why we don't get distressed when we see people acting with so much hatred and selfishness. Rather, we remember that his actions fulfill what the Bible predicts. It is clear that the Kingdom of God is already ruling! (Ps. 37:1). Furthermore, we expect the world to get worse as Armageddon approaches (Mark 13:8; 2 Tim. 3:13). Our heavenly Father loves us very much and helps us understand why we live in such complicated times. How does the prophecy of Daniel 2:28, 31-35 describe the last world power, and when did it emerge?

(Read Daniel 2:28, 31-35). Today we are seeing the fulfillment of this prophecy. In a dream, Nebuchadnezzar saw what would happen “in the latter part of the days” after Jesus began to reign. One of Jesus' enemies here on Earth would be the last world power that the Bible predicted. This power, represented by “the feet of iron and clay”, already exists. It emerged during the First World War, when the United Kingdom and the United States formed a special alliance. The statue of Nebuchadnezzar's dream gives us at least two details about this world power that would make it different from all the previous ones.

Let's look at the first detail that makes the power formed by the United Kingdom and the United States different. Unlike the other world powers of vision, this one is not represented by a single metal, such as gold or silver, but by a mixture of iron and clay. The clay represents “the offspring of mankind,” that is, the common people (Dan. 2:43, note). No one can deny that this world power has difficulty achieving its goals because of the influence exerted by the people through elections, civil rights campaigns, demonstrations and unions.

What detail reinforces our confidence that we are living in the time of the end?

The second detail is given to us by the fact that this power is represented by the feet of the statue. The power formed by the United Kingdom and the United States is the last one predicted by the Bible. This means that no other power will come after it. It and all other human governments will come to a rapid end when the Kingdom of God destroys them at Armageddon (Rev. 16:13, 14, 16; 19:19, 20).c

What other evidence does Daniel's prophecy provide, and how do they give us comfort and hope?

How does this prophecy help us? Daniel's prophecy provides further evidence that we are living in the time of the end. He prophesied more than 2,500 years ago that, after the fall of Babylon, four other world powers would have a great impact on God's people. Furthermore, he revealed that the power formed by the United Kingdom and the United States would be the last of them. This comforts us and gives us hope, because we know that soon the Kingdom of God will leave no trace of human governments and will take control of the Earth (Dan. 2:44).
