Explain your beliefs (4 mins.) Role-play. ijwfq 64. Topic: Why do Jehovah's Witnesses not participate in nationalist ceremonies? (lmd lesson 3 point 4).
Assistant: Hello, what did you think of the preparations that are being made to celebrate National Symbols Day?
Publisher: Well, it seems that there is little left.
Assistant: But I don't see her very enthusiastic about the preparations.
Publisher: Well that's true.
Helper: And may I ask why.
Publisher: I am a Jehovah's Witness, Jehovah's Witnesses rescue governments and national symbols and accept that others decide to salute the flag, take an oath of loyalty or sing the national anthem. However, we choose not to participate in those ceremonies because we believe they conflict with what the Bible teaches.
Helper: You say that it is in conflict with the Bible, maybe in the past there were no national symbols, even for the people of God.
Publisher: If you have time I would like to show you some texts.
Assistant: Yes, okay.
Publisher: Yes, okay. There are three points, for example Luke 4:8, look what it says…………………. As we can see, oaths of loyalty to the flag and national anthems often have expressions promising to serve the country above anything else. And Jehovah's Witnesses only pay loyalty to our God Jehovah.
Assistant: And what are the other points?
Publisher: Well, the second is 1 Corinthians 10:14, where it says that we should stop idolatry. Some historians recognize that flags are actually religious symbols, and the other is Acts 10:34 and 35. I would like to read it………………. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that it is mistreating people of a certain ethnic group or nationality with favoritism. And by proclaiming a national symbol we seem to put a distance between other people of another nationality.
Assistant: I hadn't thought about that, but what if the law forces us to participate?
Publisher: In some cases, an official request can be made to the government to adjust the laws. And when no change is possible, Jehovah's Witnesses maintain a respectful attitude, but decide to "Obey God As Ruler rather than men."
Assistant: I didn't know you guys took things seriously.
Publisher: If you are interested, we can continue talking at another time, since this topic is very important to us.
Assistant: Yes, I would like to know more.
