DAILY TEXT, Tuesday April 18, 2023, I did not hesitate to tell you anything that would be of benefit to you (Acts 20:20).
Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2023
Tuesday April 18
I did not hesitate to tell you anything that would be of benefit to you (Acts 20:20).
To please Jehovah, it is not necessary to give up all comforts (Eccl. 5:19, 20). Now, if we hesitate to do more in the service of God just because we don't want to make personal sacrifices, we could make the same mistake as the man in Jesus' comparison who led a very comfortable life but forgot about God (Luke 12: 16-21). When we are in trouble, we pray to Jehovah and think carefully about how to deal with it (Prov. 3:21). Jehovah blesses us in many ways. We can show our appreciation by doing all we can to praise him (Heb. 13:15). This may include increasing our ministry. If we do, Jehovah will bless us even more. So, every day let's look for opportunities to test and see that “Jehovah is good” (Ps. 34:8). Thus we will be like Jesus, who said: “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work” (John 4:34). w21.08 30-31 pars. 16-19.
HOW TO REACH YOUR GOALSWhat does Jehovah promise those who trust in him?
Learn to trust in Jehovah. If we trust him and give him our best, he promises to shower us with a shower of blessings (Mal. 3:10). A sister from Colombia named Fabiola saw for herself how Jehovah fulfilled this promise. She wanted to become a regular pioneer soon after being baptized, but her husband and her three children were largely dependent on her salary. So when she qualified to retire, she earnestly pleaded with Jehovah for help. She recounts: “Usually it takes a long time to process a pension, but I was approved just a month after applying. It was like a miracle." Two months later, she began to pioneer. She is now over 70 years old and has been in this service for over 20 years. During that time, she has helped eight people get to baptism. She says: "Sometimes I feel weak,
What examples can help us trust Jehovah and look for ways to do more for him?
Learn from the examples of others who trusted in Jehovah. The Bible is full of examples of people who went the extra mile in their service to God. In many cases, they had to take the first step before Jehovah gave them special blessings. For example, God blessed Abraham only after he left his home “although he did not know whither he was going” (Heb. 11:8). On his part, Jacob received a special blessing only after wrestling with an angel (Gen. 32: 24-30). And, when the nation of Israel was about to enter the Promised Land, the people were only able to cross the Jordan River after the priests stepped into its mighty waters (Josh. 3:14-16).
You can also learn from examples of today's Witnesses who have trusted in Jehovah and sought ways to do more for him. For example, a brother named Payton and his wife, Diana, liked to read about brothers who have increased their service to Jehovah, such as those in the series “They Offered to Help.”c He says: “When we read about them, we we felt like we were watching someone enjoying a delicious meal. The more we saw, the more we wanted to try and see that Jehovah is good.” Over time, this marriage moved to a place of need. Have you read this series of articles? And have you seen the videos Preaching in Out-of-the-way: Australia and Preaching in Out-of-the-way: Ireland, which are available on jw.org? All of this can help you find ways to increase your service to him.
How can positive influences help us?
Choose positive influences. It's easier to try a new food if we spend time with people who like that food. Similarly, if we spend time with those whose lives are focused on serving Jehovah, it will be easier for us to look for ways to increase our service to God. That was the case with Kent and Veronica. He explains: “Our friends and family encouraged us to try new facets of the service. We found that spending time with those who sought the Kingdom first gave us the confidence to try new things.” Today the two serve as special pioneers in Serbia.
