Each member contributes to the growth of the body (Eph. 4:16).
A Bible student is more likely to progress and be baptized when the congregation does its bit. All publishers can contribute to the growth of the congregation. A pioneer explains: “There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child. I think something similar happens with disciple-making—usually it takes the whole congregation helping out for someone to accept the truth.” In raising a child, his family, friends and teachers are involved, as they all encourage him and teach him important lessons. Similarly, publishers can help a student reach baptism by offering advice, encouragement, and setting a good example (Prov. 15:22). If we run a Bible course, why should we accept the help that other publishers can offer the student? Because many can contribute to your spiritual progress. w21.03 8 pars. 1-3.
What is our role when someone invites us to accompany him to a Bible course? In a Bible course, the teacher is primarily responsible for helping the student understand God's Word. If the teacher invites us to accompany him, let us remember that we are there to support him (Eccl. 4:9, 10). So what can we do to fulfill our role well?
How can we put the principle of Proverbs 20:18 into practice when we are going to accompany someone to a Bible course?
Let's prepare well. First, let's ask the teacher to tell us a little about the student (read Proverbs 20:18). We can ask him what the student's circumstances are, what lesson they will be discussing, and what specific goals he has for that particular class. We might also ask if there is anything we should or shouldn't say or do, and how we can encourage the student to progress. Of course, the teacher will not give us details of his private life, but what he does tell us can be useful. A missionary named Joy talks about these things with those who accompany her to Bible courses. She says: “This helps my companion to be interested in the person and to know what to say during the class”.
Why is it important that we prepare well?
When we accompany someone to a Bible course, it is good that we prepare the lesson beforehand (Ezr. 7:10). Dorín, mentioned in paragraph 3, explains: “I appreciate that my partner is well prepared. So he can contribute something useful ”. Also, this will set a good example for the student, as he will probably see that you are both well prepared. Even if we can't fully study the lesson, let's spend time identifying the key points.
What will help us to be more specific when we pray in a Bible course?
Prayer is an essential part of Bible class, so let's think in advance what we will say if we are asked to pray. In this way, we can be more specific (Ps. 141:2). Hanae is a sister from Japan who keeps remembering the prayers of a sister who accompanied her teacher. She says: “I realized the deep friendship I had with Jehovah, and I wanted to be like her. Also, when she mentioned my name in her prayers, she made me feel wanted”.
