Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022
Sunday October 30
If the world hates you, you already know that it hated me before it hated you (John 15:18).
The world sometimes hates us because we follow God's rules in our lives, which clash head-on with their lack of values. For example, many people today look favorably on the same immoral practices for which God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Jude 7). Many people make fun of us and call us bigots because we follow the Bible's standards on this matter (1 Pet. 4:3, 4). What qualities will help us withstand people's hate and insults? We need to have strong faith that Jehovah will help us. Faith is like a shield that allows us to “quench all the fiery arrows of the Evil One” (Eph. 6:16). But, in addition to faith, we need love. Why? Because love “is not easily irritated” and supports and endures everything that makes us suffer (1 Cor. 13:4-7, 13). The love of Jehovah, our brothers and even our enemies helps us endure hatred. w21.03 20, 21 paras. 3. 4.
What was Jesus able to do thanks to the love he felt for his Father?
The night before his enemies murdered him, Jesus told his loyal followers, “So that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly what the Father has commanded me” (John 14:31). The love that Jesus felt for Jehovah gave him strength to face the trials that lay ahead of him. Our love for Jehovah can do the same for us.
According to Romans 5:3-5, how do Jehovah's servants feel when the world hates us?
Love for God has always helped Jehovah's servants endure persecution. For example, when the powerful Jewish high court ordered the apostles to stop preaching, love for God prompted them to “obey God as ruler rather than men” (Acts 5:29; 1 John 5:3 ). That same unwavering love for God also helps us remain faithful to those of our brothers who are being persecuted by powerful and cruel governments. When the world hates us, we are not discouraged, but happy (Acts 5:41; read Romans 5:3-5).
How should we react to family opposition?
Perhaps one of the most difficult tests to endure is family opposition. When they realize that we want to know Jehovah, some relatives may think that we have been deceived or even crazy (compare Mark 3:21). They may even become aggressive with us. But none of this should surprise us, for Jesus said that “everyone's enemies will be those of his own house” (Matt. 10:36). Naturally, no matter how we are viewed, we never hate our relatives. On the contrary: the more we love Jehovah, the more we love others (Matt. 22:37-39). Of course, we will never disobey the laws and principles of the Bible just to please a human being.
What can we be sure of?
The apostle Paul wrote that nothing “will ever be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:38, 39). Although we sometimes suffer, Jehovah will never fail us. He will always give us comfort and strength. And, as Georgina's experience shows, he will also help us through our dear brothers.
