Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Monday October 17

Jesus continued to grow, becoming wiser and gaining the approval of God and people (Luke 2:52).

Parents' decisions often affect their children for a long time. If they are bad, they will bring problems to the children. But if they are good they will help them to be happy. Of course, children must also make good decisions. The best decision we can make is to serve our loving heavenly Father, Jehovah (Ps. 73:28). Jesus' parents wanted to help their children serve Jehovah, and their decisions showed that this was the most important thing in their lives.—Luke 2:40, 41, 52. Jesus also made good choices that helped him fulfill his role in Jehovah's purpose (Matt. 4:1-10). He grew up to be a good, loyal, and courageous man, the kind of son that any father who loves Jehovah would be proud and happy to have. w20.10 26 paras. 1, 2.

What important decision did Jehovah make regarding his Son?

Jehovah chose excellent parents for Jesus (Matt. 1:18-23; Luke 1:26-38). The sincere words of Mary that we read in the Bible show how much she loved Jehovah and his Word (Luke 1: 46-55). And the way Joseph reacted to Jehovah's guidance shows that he loved him and wanted to please him (Matt. 1:24).

What situations did Jehovah allow his Son to experience?

Note that Jehovah did not choose rich parents for Jesus. The sacrifice that Joseph and Mary offered after the birth of Jesus indicates that they were poor (Luke 2:24). Joseph may have had a small carpentry shop next to his home in Nazareth. They must have led a simple life, especially since they had at least seven children (Matt. 13:55, 56).

Jehovah protected his Son from some dangers, but allowed him to go through some difficult situations (Matt. 2:13-15). For example, there were relatives of Jesus who did not believe in him. Imagine how frustrating it must have been that some of his own family initially did not believe he was the Messiah (Mark 3:21; John 7:5). It is also likely that he had to deal with the death of his adoptive father, Joseph. And, since he was the eldest son, he might have to take over the family business (Mark 6:3). Over the years, he learned to take care of his family. He may have had to work very hard to support her. So he knew what it's like to be exhausted after a long day at work.

What questions can help married couples with children? y According to Proverbs 2:1-6, what should parents teach their children?

If you and your spouse want to have children, ask yourself: “Are we the kind of humble, spiritual people that Jehovah would choose to entrust with the care of a newborn?” (Ps. 127:3, 4). On the other hand, if you are already a parent, ask yourself, “Do I teach my children the importance of hard work?” (Eccl. 3:12, 13). “Do I do everything possible to protect them from the physical and moral dangers of Satan's world?” (Prov. 22:3). Of course, you can't protect them from all of life's problems. That would be impossible. But you can prepare them with love to face them. How? Teaching them to look to the Bible for guidance (read Proverbs 2:1-6). For example, if a relative decides to leave the truth, show his children with God's Word why it is so important to be loyal to Jehovah (Ps. 31:23). Or, if a loved one dies, teach them Bible texts that help them cope with pain and have peace (2 Cor. 1:3, 4; 2 Tim. 3:16).
