Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Friday September 30

You seem to be more devoted to the gods than others (Acts 17:22).

The apostle Paul did not preach to the Gentiles in Athens in the same way as to the Jews in the synagogue. He carefully looked around him and noted their religious customs (Acts 17:23). Next, he sought common ground between what they believed and the truth of the Scriptures. So the apostle was willing to adapt his way of preaching. He told the people of Athens that his message came from the "Unknown God" whom they intended to worship. Although the Gentiles did not know the Scriptures, Paul did not write them off. On the contrary, he saw them as the grain that is ready for harvest and adapted his way of presenting the good news. Like Paul, let us be observant. Let us be attentive to details that indicate what the people of our territory believe. Are there any decorations in your house or in your vehicle? Can you tell us your name? their way of dressing and grooming or even their vocabulary what religion are they? w20.04 9, 10 paras. 7, 8.

What beliefs can we have in common with a religious person?

What topics could we talk about with a religious person? Let's try to find common ground. Perhaps she worships one God, she acknowledges that Jesus is the Savior of mankind, or she believes that the evil we see today will soon end. Let's use the beliefs we have in common to present the message of the Bible in an attractive way.

What should we try to do, and why?

Keep in mind that the person may not believe everything his religion teaches. So once we know what religion she belongs to, let's try to find out what she believes. A special pioneer from Australia named David says: “Today, many mix their religion with philosophical ideas.” A sister from Albania named Donalta says: "Sometimes we talk to people who say they have their religion, but then they admit they don't believe in God." And a missionary from Argentina explains that some who claim to believe in the Trinity do not really believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one God. And he adds: “Knowing this makes it much easier for you to find common ground with the person.” So let's try to find out what people really believe. Then, like Paul, we will become “all things to all kinds of people” (1 Cor. 9:19-23).

According to Acts 14:14-17, how did Paul preach attractively to the inhabitants of Lystra?

(Read Acts 14:14-17). Paul noticed what interested his listeners and tailored his presentation. For example, the crowd to whom he preached at Lystra knew little or nothing of the Scriptures. So Paul talked about things that were familiar to them, like bountiful harvests and joy of life. He used words and examples that were easy to understand.

What can we do to find out what a person is interested in and tailor our presentation?

Let's try to find out what interests people in our territory and adapt our presentation. How can we find out what interests a person when we approach him or his house? Again, let's be observant. Perhaps you are gardening, reading a book, repairing a car, or doing something else. If we see it appropriate, we can start the conversation by talking about what he is doing (John 4:7). Even a person's clothes can tell us something about him: his nationality, what he does for a living, or his favorite sports team. A brother named Gustavo says: “I started a conversation with a 19-year-old who had a picture of a famous singer on his shirt. I asked him something about his shirt, and he told me why he liked that singer. That conversation resulted in a Bible course,

How can we offer a Bible course in an attractive way?

When we offer someone a Bible course, let's make it attractive. Let's explain how he will benefit you personally (John 4:13-15). For example, a woman who showed interest brought a sister named Hester into her home. When the sister saw a diploma on the wall indicating that the woman was a professor of Pedagogy, she pointed out that we also teach through Bible courses and our meetings. The woman agreed to study the Bible, she went to a meeting the next day, and soon after she attended a circuit assembly. Within a year, she was baptized. Let's ask ourselves: “What are the people I revisit interested in? Can I explain to you in an engaging way what our Bible study program is all about?.

How can we adapt the Bible course to each student?

If we have started a Bible study, let us prepare well for each study session, taking into account the circumstances of the student and what interests him. Let's think about the texts we will read, the videos we will teach you, and the examples we will use to explain Bible truths. Let's ask ourselves what will grab the student's attention and touch their heart (Prov. 16:23). In Albania, a woman who was studying with a pioneer named Flora stated, “I cannot accept the teaching of the resurrection.” Flora did not press the matter. She says, "I realized that she first needed to meet the God who promises the resurrection." From then on, in each study session, Flora emphasized Jehovah's love, wisdom, and power. In time, the woman willingly accepted this teaching. She now she serves Jehovah with enthusiasm.
