DAILY TEXT, Today's Saturday September 17, 2022

Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Saturday September 17, 2022

The farmer continues to patiently wait for the valuable fruit of the land. You also have patience (Jas. 5:7, 8).

In Israel, the farmer sowed the seeds after the first rains, in mid-October, and reaped the harvest after the last rains, in mid-April (Mark 4:28). If we are wise, we will follow the farmer's example of patience. Now this may not be easy. Because of our imperfection, human beings want to immediately see the fruits of our efforts. But, if someone has a garden and wants it to bear fruit, he must give it constant attention: he has to dig, plant, weed and water. The same goes for the work of making disciples. We need to spend time rooting out prejudice and indifference from the hearts of our students. When people reject us, patience will help us not to get discouraged. But you also have to be patient when people respond well, for we cannot force the growth of the student's faith. Sometimes even Jesus' disciples took time to understand the meaning of what he taught (John 14:9). Let us remember that we can plant and water, but God makes it grow (1 Cor. 3:6). w20.09 11 paras. 10, 11

According to Acts 1:6-8, how far would the preaching go?

In our day, we must be very focused on preaching the good news of the Kingdom. Jesus foretold that this work would spread and continue long after his death (John 14:12). After Jesus died, some of his disciples went back to their fishing business. After his resurrection, Jesus used his power to make some of them catch a large number of fish. He took advantage of that occasion to make it clear to them that fishing for men was more important than any other work (John 21: 15-17). Just before he went back to heaven, he told his disciples that the preaching he had begun would take place beyond the borders of Israel (read Acts 1:6-8). Years later, he showed the apostle John in a vision what would take place “in the day of the Lord.”* Among other things, John saw something impressive: that under the guidance of angels “everlasting good news . . . was preached to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people” (Rev. 1:10; 14:6). It is clear that Jehovah wants us to participate to the end in this monumental preaching work.

What can we do to stay focused on preaching?

One thing that will help us stay focused in the preaching work is to think about all that Jehovah does to help us. For example, he gives us abundant spiritual nourishment: print and digital publications, audio and video recordings, and JW Broadcasting programs. Let's think about this: our official website has information in more than a thousand languages (Matt. 24:45-47). In a world divided by political, religious and economic reasons, the more than eight million servants of God around the world are a true united family. For example, on Friday, April 19, 2019, Jehovah's Witnesses around the globe were able to enjoy a video that analyzed the daily text. That night, 20,919,041 people gathered to commemorate the death of Jesus. Isn't it a great honor to see this miracle of our days and be part of it? Thinking about it impels us to be focused on the work of the Kingdom.
