WHEN A CHRISTIAN COMMITS A SERIOUS SIN

4. (a) What should a Christian who has committed a serious sin do?

When someone commits a serious sin, it is necessary to inform the elders.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

In the text of First Corinthians 6:9,10 there is a list of sins that he considers serious and if one has committed any of these sins, what he should do is go and report it to the elders.

Well, what you should do is ask Jehovah for forgiveness through prayer, and talk to the elders of the congregation about what you have done.

The first thing you should do is pray to Jehovah, as Psalm 32:5 says, "you should confess your offenses to him, so that he may forgive you," and then follow the biblical guideline found in James 5:14, "call the elders » and inform them of the sin we have committed so that they pray for us and help us recover our spirituality.

b) What responsibility do elders have?

The elders have the responsibility to decide with the help of the Scriptures if the sinner can continue in the congregation or not.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

According to what first Corinthians 5:12 says, the elders have the responsibility to judge but not to judge if God has forgiven him or not, if not if he can continue in the congregation or they have to be expelled.

They have the responsibility to decide with the help of what the Bible says, if the person who has sinned can continue in the congregation or not, and for this they ask questions like these: Did the person plan to commit the sin? hide it? Have you been committing the sin for some time? And more importantly, have you shown that you are truly sorry? Is there evidence that Jehovah has forgiven you?

5. How does the work of the elders benefit the congregation?

The elders pray for the person who repents, asking Jehovah to help him regain spiritual health.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

First Corinthians 5:6,7 says that a little leaven can ferment the whole lump that can happen within the congregation if the sinner is left his bad influence may incite the other sheep to sin that is why sometimes he has to be expelled from the congregation.

It benefits us a lot because if the person who has sinned does not repent, then they are not allowed to continue in the congregation and in this way everyone is protected from their bad influence, and in fact this discipline also helps the sinner to repent and obtain forgiveness from others. Jehovah.

The benefit of elders' work is that the congregation maintains good spiritual health. Therefore, in the case of the sinner who does not repent, he is not allowed to continue in it, and thus the other sheep are protected from his bad influence. Furthermore, this can help the person who has sinned to repent and obtain Jehovah's forgiveness.
