Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Sunday July 31, 2022

I was rescued from the lion's mouth (2 Tim. 4:17).

Is our family opposed to our serving Jehovah? Or do we live in a country where our work is highly restricted or even prohibited? If so, you can encourage us to read 2 Timothy 1:12-16 and 4:6-11, 17-22. The apostle Paul wrote this part of the Scriptures when he was in prison. Before reading those verses, let's tell Jehovah about our problem and how we feel. Let's be specific. So let us ask Jehovah to help us find principles in Paul's test accounts to guide us in our case. Jehovah had warned Paul that he would be persecuted for being a Christian (Acts 21:11-13). How did Jehovah help Paul? He answered his prayers and gave him strength. He also assured him that he would get the reward he had worked so hard for and encouraged Paul's loyal friends to give him practical help. w21.03 17, 18 paras. 14, 15, 19.

What biblical account will we analyze?

Has a friend or family member betrayed our trust? In that case, we will benefit from reviewing the account of a son of King David named Absalom, who betrayed his father and tried to take the kingdom from him (2 Sam. 15:5-14, 31; 18:6-14).

What can we do to help Jehovah?

1) Pray. With the story in mind, let us specifically tell Jehovah how we feel about being treated badly.—Ps. 6:6-9. Then let's ask him to help us find the principles that show us what to do.

How would you summarize the account of David and Absalom?

2) Imagine. Let's think about what this story tells us and imagine how all this affected King David. His son Absalom struggled for years to endear himself to the people (2 Sam. 15:7). When he thought the time was right, he sent spies throughout Israel to prepare the people to accept him as king. He even persuaded Ahithophel, David's close friend and adviser, to join the rebellion. Absalom then declared himself king and tried to capture and kill David, who may have been seriously ill at the time (Ps. 41:1-9). When David found out about it, he fled from Jerusalem. Finally, Absalom's army confronted the men loyal to David. The rebel army lost, and Absalom was killed.
