Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

My brothers, when you meet various trials, consider it a reason for absolute happiness (Jas. 1:2).

Jesus promised his disciples that they would be truly happy. But he also told them that those who loved him would face trouble (Matt. 10:22, 23; Luke 6:20-23). It makes us happy to be disciples of Christ. Still, we may feel anxious about facing family opposition, being persecuted by governments, or being pressured by peers at school or work to do things that Jehovah does not like. In general, no one is happy to be persecuted. However, that is exactly what the Word of God tells us to feel. For example, the disciple James wrote that problems should not make us feel overwhelmed, but happy (Jas. 1:2, 12). And Jesus said that we should be happy even when persecuted (Matt. 5:11). Jehovah inspired James to write to Christians and give them practical advice that would help them be happy despite problems. w21.02 26 paras. 1, 2; 27 para. 5

What else do we have to do to gain wisdom?

Jehovah gives us wisdom through his Word (Prov. 2:6). To get it, we have to study the Bible and the publications based on it. However, it is not enough to accumulate knowledge. We have to follow Jehovah's advice in our lives. James said, “Put the word into practice and do not just hear it” (Jas. 1:22). When we apply God's advice, we become more peaceful, reasonable and merciful people (Jas. 3:17). These qualities help us face any test without losing joy.

Why is it important that we know the Bible well?

The Word of God acts as a mirror and helps us identify what we need to change and how to do it (Jas. 1:23-25). For example, after studying God's Word, we may realize that we need to control our temper. With Jehovah's help, we learn to be gentle when dealing with people or problems that drive us crazy. In turn, because we are calm, we are more prepared to face the pressures of life. We can think more clearly and make better decisions (Jas. 3:13). How important it is that we know the Bible well!
