Congregation Book Study, June 20-26, 2022, Lesson 09, Answers.
Congregation Bible study (30 mins): lff lesson 09.
1. To whom should we pray? What can we talk about in our prayers?
We must pray to Jehovah, and we can talk to him about any topic, although of course if we want him to answer us we are not going to ask for something that goes against his will.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
And as Matthew 6:9,13 says in prayer we can ask him to give us our daily food, to forgive our sins, and those who have offended us, and also to help us resist temptations.
In the Our Father prayer, Jesus taught that we should only pray to Jehovah. In our prayers we can talk about anything that is according to his will. Of course, apart from praying for us, we want to thank him for what he does for each of us and that he helps other people.
2. How should we pray?
The Bible says that we must pour out our hearts before God, that is, our prayers must be sincere, they must come from our hearts.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Our prayers must be sincere, they must come from the heart. They can be loud or silent and in any position that shows respect for Jehovah.
3. How does God answer our prayers?
It may be through the Bible, or through one of his servants.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
He does it, for example, through his word, since in it he answers any doubt or question we have, also through it he gives us peace of mind.
4. There are certain requirements to pray to God
Questions after the video, "Does God hear all prayers?":
On what does it depend that God accepts our prayers?
That what we ask is in accordance with their moral principles. He listens to the prayers that we say out loud and those that are silent.
Do you think the God who “hears prayers” wants you to pray to him? Why does he think like that?
Of course, because the Bible itself tells us so, also as mentioned in the video, he is our creator and therefore he is interested in what happens to us, so he gladly listens to our requests.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
It allows anyone to address it. Therefore, he gave this means to communicate with him.
Read Micah 3:4 and 1 Peter 3:12, and discuss the following:
How can we make sure that God hears our prayers?
Acting according to his will, striving to live according to his moral principles, and being fair, since he does not listen to those who do bad things.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Maintaining good conduct and striving to do his will.
5. Our prayers must come from the heart
Read Matthew 6:7 and discuss the following:
What can we do to avoid saying “the same thing over and over again” in our prayers?
What we can do to not be repetitive is to pray from our hearts, be sincere with Jehovah, and also, for example, we can think of all the good things that he gives us day by day and thank him for it.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Say things that come from the heart, from our daily life, thank you for specific things that happen to us every day.
How about each day you think of something beautiful in your life and then thank Jehovah for it?
If you do this for a week, by the end you will have talked about seven different things in your sentences without repeating anything.
6. Prayer is a gift from God
Questions after the video, “Prayer helps us to continue”:
How can prayer give us strength, especially in difficult moments of life?
Brother with cancer problem since he was 8 years old, with a tumor that grows along the spine and very close to the heart. He has heart problems and severe back pain. Sometimes he gets discouraged, he feels frustrated, angry, but prayer helps him endure. He asks Jehovah for specific things.
Read Philippians 4:6, 7 and discuss the following:
Although prayer does not solve all our problems, how does it help us?
He helps us a lot because he gives us peace of mind and tranquility when we go through problems that apparently have no solution, and he also helps us accept our circumstances as the young man in the video mentions.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
It helps us to have peace of mind we can face the problem we face.
What things would you like to pray about?
I would personally like to pray that as a young person you will help me to stand firm despite the many temptations that come our way day in and day out.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Improve some aspect of teaching. Better understand the Bible.
7. Set aside time to pray
Read Matthew 14:23 and Mark 1:35, and discuss the following:
How did Jesus manage to set aside time to pray?
