How did Abner change?
He decided to support David and his kingship because he knew that God would support David.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
He had been the head of Saul's army, he persecuted David and when Saul dies, he supports David's rival to be king, but then he goes to David to make a pact with him.
Let's see, then, I change sides in terms of showing him loyalty, he was the one who put a relative of Saul as king but later when he saw that Saul's army was diminishing and becoming weak and a pact was made with David to that he will forgive him and to make all Israel, including those who were against David, accept him as king.
How did David and Joab react to Abner's request?
David trusted Abner and made a covenant with him. But Joab reacted differently, he had a grudge against Abner and took revenge by killing him.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
In the case of David, he decided to trust Abner and I hope he kept his word, instead, in Joab's eyes, David had made a mistake, he totally distrusted Abner's change, since he had killed his brother, which led him to harbor a grudge and ultimately murdered Abner.
There was a big difference since when to learn was, where David to conclude a covenant. Well, he did not blame everything he had done against him, rather as the biblical account says, he made a great banquet to sell and his 20 men who had gone with him, then as we see David wanted to settle the situation and that peace will reign.
In the case of Joab, exactly different from David since he harbored a certain grudge because reading killed his brother then as we see instead of trying to make peace with him because he got upset. So then he looked for the occasion to take his life and we see that he succeeded.
Why should we expect the best from our brothers?
Because if we love God and our brothers we will expect the best from them.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Because as the final part of the video says, those who hate expect the worst but those who love never lose hope, so if we expect the best from our brothers we will never be negative with their changes, as happened to Joab.
Because Joab's example illustrates that we do always expect the bad from our brothers, even when the good they do is with good intentions. Well, we will always know that there is something wrong with that. And that will help us appreciate our brothers, but yes, but if we always look jealously for the good things of our brothers, then when difficulties arise, those good things will make us seek peace and maintain unity within the congregation.
