Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Sunday May 1, 2022

He continued subject to them (Luke 2:51).

As a boy, Jesus chose to be obedient to his parents. He never rebelled against his authority or thought he was smarter than Joseph and Mary. He sure took his responsibilities as his eldest son very seriously. He went to great lengths to learn the trade from his adoptive father to help support the family. It is probable that his parents told him that his birth was a miracle and what the angels had said about him (Luke 2: 8-19, 25-38). But Jesus was not satisfied with that, but he also studied the Scriptures for himself. How do we know that he was a good student of God's Word? Because, as a teenager, the teachers in Jerusalem “were amazed at his understanding of matters and the answers he gave” (Luke 2:46, 47). At just 12 years old, Jesus had not the slightest doubt that Jehovah was his Father (Luke 2:42, 43, 49). w20.10 29, 30 paras. 13, 14

How did Joseph and Mary implement the command at Deuteronomy 6:6, 7?

Joseph and Mary were able to help Jesus earn God's approval because they followed the instructions Jehovah gave their parents (read Deuteronomy 6:6, 7). They both loved Jehovah very much, and the most important thing for them was to help their children to have that same love.

What important decisions did Joseph and Mary make?

José and María decided to maintain a good spiritual program for the family. They went every week to the synagogue in Nazareth and every year to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover (Luke 2:41; 4:16). They may have used those family trips to Jerusalem to teach Jesus and his siblings the history of Jehovah's people. And perhaps along the way they visited places that are mentioned in the scriptures. The larger the family, the more difficult it must have been for Joseph and Mary to maintain the spiritual routine. But putting Jehovah's worship first was worth it, as the family was in good spiritual health.

What lessons can Christian parents learn from Joseph and Mary?

What can Christian parents learn from Joseph and Mary? Above all, show your children by what you say and do that you love Jehovah from your heart. The greatest gift you can give them is to help them love Jehovah. And one of the most important lessons they can teach them is how to maintain a good program that includes study, prayer, meetings, and preaching (1 Tim. 6:6). Sure, they should give them the material things they need (1 Tim. 5:8). But remember, what will help your children survive the end of this old system and enter God's new world will not be material things, but their good friendship with Jehovah (Ezek. 7:19; 1 Tim. 4:8 ).*
