Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021
Monday, December 13, 2021
Pay constant attention to yourself and your teaching. By doing this you will save yourself and also those who listen to you (1 Tim. 4:16).
When we begin to live up to God's standards, our family members may find it difficult to get used to our beliefs and way of life. Usually the first thing they see is that we no longer celebrate religious holidays with them and that we don't get involved in politics. At first, some may be upset with us (Matt. 10:35, 36). But we must not give them up for lost. If we stop trying to help them understand our beliefs, we have actually judged them and decided that they don't deserve eternal life. But Jehovah has entrusted the task of judging to Jesus, not to us. --John 5:22. If we are patient, it is possible that in time our family members will be willing to hear the message. We are to be kind but firm even when we have to go through trials (1 Cor. 4: 12b). It may take time for our family members to fully understand that we take Jehovah's service very seriously. w19.08 17 pars. 10, 13; 18 par. 14
According to 2 Peter 3: 9, why should we witness to our family members?
Soon, Jehovah will put an end to Satan's world. Only those with the right attitude to obtain eternal life will survive (Acts 13:48). We spend a lot of time and energy preaching to people in the community, so it stands to reason that we also want our family members to serve Jehovah. Our loving heavenly Father “does not want any of them to be destroyed; rather, He wants everyone to come to repentance ”(read 2 Peter 3: 9).
What mistake could we make when we preach to a family member?
We must remember that we can speak the message of salvation in an appropriate way or in an inappropriate way. We may preach tactfully to a stranger, while being very direct when speaking with a family member.
What should we keep in mind when witnessing to our family members?
As we remember the first time we tried to preach to our family members, many of us may regret how we did it and think we could have done better. The apostle Paul gave Christians the following advice: "May your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each one" (Col. 4: 5, 6). These words should be kept in mind when we speak with our relatives. Otherwise, we could end up drawing them away from the truth instead of attracting them to it.
