The Study Watchtower, "Article 36," Nov. 8-14, 2021, Value the Strength of Young People, Answers.
1. What good goal can we set for ourselves when we get older?
We may not have as much strength as we get older, but we can use the wisdom and experience we have gained over the years. And set goals like helping young people to be more useful in Jehovah's organization and take on new responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Most of the older siblings, when they were young, thought about what they could do when they no longer have the same abilities that they have. It may be that over the years we will not have so much strength, but they will have a lot of wisdom, that they could use it, this could be their goal, to be able to help the youngest with all the wisdom and experience they have, they could be a great help .
Well, as we have advanced in wisdom and experience, we want to share it with the young people who will become more useful in Jehovah's organization, and take on new responsibilities. We want to prepare them to do the work we used to do.
2. What will we see in this article?
In this article, we will see that qualities such as humility, modesty, gratitude, and generosity can help the elderly to work shoulder to shoulder with the young.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
As we saw in the previous article, young people benefit from being friends with the elderly. In this article, we will see many qualities humility, modesty, gratitude and generosity. These qualities could help us to work together, older brothers and young people, this could help the congregation a lot.
We will see what qualities such as humility, modesty, gratitude and generosity will help the elderly to work alongside the young for the benefit of the congregation.
BE HUMBLE
3. a) According to Philippians 2: 3, 4, what does it mean to be humble? b) How does humility help a Christian?
Being humble implies thinking that others are superior to us. Humble people seek not only their own interests, but also those of others. And they do not listen to any conflictive or self-centered spirit.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
As we know, humility is a value contrary to the pride that the human being possesses. Humility is a great virtue that involves knowing and accepting your own weaknesses and qualities, and acting accordingly. For example: we could admit a mistake, share the knowledge learned and be grateful. It is to recognize that others are superior to them.
How does humility help a Christian?
When a Christian is humble, he doesn't make people feel bad. And they also adapt to new circumstances, as older brothers do, when they want to help the younger ones, they adapt to the circumstances and understand that times have changed.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Jehovah loves humble people. Only those who show true humility can be your close and dear friends. Humility also helps us face the difficulties of life. It is normal for there to be things that seem unfair or wrong to us.
Although older people often know how to apply biblical principles and make some things more effective, they do not expect everyone to do them the way they did before. They must recognize that the scene of this world is changing and it may be necessary for them to adapt to the new circumstances.
4. How do the circuit overseers display an attitude similar to that of the Levites?
In the case of circuit overseers. When they turn 70, they are given a new assignment. That may be very difficult for them, as they loved to serve their brothers that way. But they understand that it is better for younger brothers to take care of her now. Their attitude is like that of the Levites of ancient Israel who, when they were 50 years old, had to stop serving in the tabernacle. His joy did not depend on a particular responsibility. With enthusiasm, they did all they could and helped the younger ones.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The Levites of ancient Israel, when they were 50 years old, were to stop serving in the tabernacle. Of course, his happiness did not depend on a particular responsibility. But at first that may be very difficult for them. Even so with great enthusiasm, they did everything they could and helped the younger ones. Just as circuit overseers do, because it is not easy at all to leave an assignment, to go to a new one. But they had to understand that it is better for younger brothers to take care of her now.
The Levites served in the tabernacle until or when they were 50 years old. Circuit overseers when they turn 70 receive a new assignment. Without a doubt it is difficult to leave this privilege that they carry in their hearts but they understand that it is better for young people to take charge of this work. Yet they continue to enthusiastically support the younger ones and the congregations where they serve.
5. What does Dan and Katie's example teach you?
When Dan turned 70, he and his wife, Katie, were named special pioneers. Dan says he is busier than ever tending to congregational responsibilities, helping brethren to be ministerial servants, and training others for preaching in metropolitan areas and in prisons. Dan and Katie teach us that older siblings can do a lot to help others. How? Adapting to their new circumstances, setting goals and concentrating on what they can do.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Dan and Katie teach us that even though they spent a long time in circuit work, they had to leave it to become special pioneers. even so they said, whether they are in full-time service or where they are, they could do a lot to help others. They give us a great example, which is that we can adapt to the circumstances that happen, the important thing is to set goals and focus on everything we can do.
Dan, he was in circuit work for 23 years. When he was 70 he and his wife were appointed special pioneers. Now he says he is busier than ever tending to the responsibilities of the congregation, helping the brethren to be ministerial servants, and training others in preaching in metropolitan areas and in prisons.

Older people generously share their experience with others. (See paragraphs 4 and 5.) *
BE MODEST
6. Why is it wise to be modest? Give an example.
Because the person who is modest recognizes his limitations. She doesn't push herself for more than she can give and, as a result, she is happy and productive. The modest person knows when to “downshift” in order to continue serving Jehovah and helping in the congregation.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
"Wisdom is with the modest," says the proverb. This is because the modest person avoids the disgrace that accompanies presumption or boasting. She sticks to Jehovah's approved course, so she is wise. Jehovah loves such a person and grants him wisdom. One of the requirements for gaining favor with Jehovah is 'to be modest in walking with Him.'
When driving a car uphill to keep going up you should downshift, even if that means going slower. Such is the modest person who recognizes his limitations in order to continue serving Jehovah and helping others must shift to a "slower speed."
7. How did Barzilái show that he was modest?
He recognized that at his age he already had certain limitations and therefore recommended that Kimham, a younger man, go in his place. Like Barzilái, the older brothers are happy to give the younger ones the opportunity to attend to certain responsibilities. Thus Barzilai showed that he was modest, giving Kimham the opportunity to be part of the royal court of King David.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Barzilai showed that he was modest when he rejected the king's offer. And he recommended Kimham, because he was so much younger. Barzilái recognized his limitations because of his age, there were many things that he could no longer do that Kimham could.
When he received an invitation from King David to join his royal court, Barzilai was 80 years old. He recognized that at his age he already had certain limitations and that is why he recommended that Kimham, so that he can go in his place, since he was younger.
8. How did King David show modesty when he wanted to build the temple?
David wanted with all his heart to make a house for Jehovah. But when Jehovah told him that he had decided that young Solomon would build it, David agreed and gave his full support to the work. He knew that success depended on Jehovah's blessing, not on the age or experience of those leading the works.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Jehovah chose Solomon to oversee the construction of the temple in Jerusalem, one of the most important works in history. The building would have to be impressive and would become famous in "all countries" for its beauty. But more importantly, it would be "the house of Jehovah the true God." King David gave an excellent example of modesty, because when Jehovah told him that he had decided that young Solomon would build it, David accepted it and gave his full support to the work, because David trusted that God would support Solomon and help him. would give his blessing.
Although he wanted with all his heart to make a house for Jehovah. When God told him that the one who was going to build was Solomon, he accepted it and gave his full support to the work. David knew that success depended on Jehovah's blessing and not on the age or experience of those who led his work. Older Christians today also recognize that Jehovah will bless the young men who tend to the tasks they used to do.
ILLUSTRATION:
King David teaches Solomon some of the materials that will be used to build the temple.
King David accepted God's decision that his son would build the temple. (See paragraph 8.)
9. How did a member of a Branch Committee show modesty?
Shigeo, when he was 30 years old, was appointed a member of a Branch Committee. He became the coordinator of this committee. Over time he realized that he no longer had the strength of before and was not as fast in his work. So he spoke to Jehovah about the matter and thought that a younger brother would take his place. Today, he is no longer the coordinator, but is still part of the Branch Committee and collaborating with its members. A humble and modest person does not focus on the lack of experience of young people, but on their strengths.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Shigeo was a member of a Branch Committee, but he eventually realized that he no longer had the strength as before and was not as fast in his work. And he showed modesty when he spoke to Jehovah about the matter and considered the advantages of having a younger brother take his place. This is how he stopped being a coordinator, but continued to be part of the Branch Committee.
Shigeo at the age of 30 was appointed to a branch committee. In 2004 he became the coordinator of this committee. But after he realized that he no longer had the strength of before and that he was not so fast in his work, he discussed the matter with Jehovah and thought about the advantages of having a younger brother take his place. He remains a part of the branch committee and collaborates with his fellow youth on this committee.
BE THANKFUL
10. How do older brothers view the younger ones in the congregation?
They see them as gifts from Jehovah and are very grateful for what they do. As their strength diminishes, they are a great help for the older brothers, since there are so many jobs in the congregation that they can no longer do and the younger ones if they can. That is why they value that those who are young and strong are willing and able to work to meet the needs of the congregation.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
They are very grateful and happy to have the young brothers, because they are strong and help to meet the needs of the congregation. Because for older brothers because of their age it is much more difficult to meet all the needs of the congregation, because their strength is diminishing.
As gifts from Jehovah and they are very grateful for what they do. They also value what they do and can work to meet the needs of the congregation.
11. How does Ruth 4: 13-16 show that the older ones benefit when they are grateful for the help of the younger ones?
Ruth 4: 13-16 teaches us that even though bad things can happen to us like Naomi, when her son died. There will always be the youngest who can help us, as Ruth helped Naomi. Jehovah can give us many blessings if we are grateful to the younger ones.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
As Ruth 4: 13-16 says, the elderly benefit by thanking the young for help, because they are showered with blessings.
When Naomi became a widow, she told her daughter-in-law Ruth to go back to her family. But Ruth insisted on accompanying her to Bethlehem, and accepted his help, and they both received a great blessing. When the older brothers who are humble allow themselves to be helped by the younger ones, they benefit a lot.
12. How did the apostle Paul show that he was thankful?
He expressed his gratitude for what Timothy had done for him. And he thanked God for the brothers who came to encourage him when he was a prisoner on the way to Rome. Paul was an energetic man who had traveled thousands of miles to preach. But he did not let pride prevent him from accepting the help of his young brothers.

13. How can older siblings show appreciation for what younger siblings do?
For example, if young siblings offer to take them somewhere, go shopping, or attend to other necessary business, gratefully accept their help. See it as an expression of Jehovah's love. Who knows if that is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Always be interested in the spiritual progress of these young people.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

BE GENEROUS
14. How did King David show that he was generous?

He donated a huge amount of his wealth to support the construction of the temple. He did it although the greatest recognition would be his son Solomon. If our older brothers can support us with their strength, construction projects, if they can do it with their donations and experience.
15. What things of great value did Paul share with Timothy?
Paul invited young Timothy to accompany him on his missionary journeys and taught him his methods of preaching and teaching. The training Pablo gave him helped him become a skilled teacher of the good news. Timothy was grateful, he used what Paul had taught him to train other young brothers.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

I invite Timothy to accompany him on his travels and teach him his methods of preaching and teaching. That allowed Timothy to be a good teacher of the good news.
16. Why did Shigeo train others?
Shigeo, mentioned in paragraph 9, trained younger brothers on the Branch Committee over the years. He did this to support the Kingdom work in the country where he serves. As a result, when the time came to step down as coordinator, there was a capable brother who could take his place.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Because he was not afraid to stop being useful, even so, he trained younger brothers to take charge of what he did in the congregation, because he knew that there would come a time to leave his responsibility as coordinator and a younger and more qualified brother. would take its place.
It was a way to support the work of the kingdom in the country where he serves. Thus, when he left his responsibility as coordinator, there was already a brother qualified to take his place.
17. What can the elderly give to others? (Luke 6:38).
Older brothers are proof that serving Jehovah in faith is the best way to live. His example shows that it is worth the effort to know biblical principles and put them into practice. Older siblings know from their experience how things were done in the past, but they also see the importance of adapting to changes.

Each one has something valuable to share, the elderly have the wisdom and experiences they have acquired over the years and the young have the energy and strength. As you collaborate together you honor our loving heavenly Father and are a blessing to the entire congregation.
HOW DO THESE QUALITIES HELP THE OLDER BROTHERS TO TRAIN AND ENCOURAGE THE YOUNGER?
Humility and modesty
When they are humble they understand that as the years go by they can no longer do as much as before. They recognize that their joy in serving Jehovah does not depend on a particular responsibility. When they are modest they recognize their limitations and that they should slow down but not their love and loyalty to Jehovah. They recognize that there are young brothers who must be prepared to do this work.
Gratitude
They see the youngest as gifts from Jehovah and help train them to serve in positions within God's organization. They accept the help that others are giving them and express their gratitude for that help.
Generosity
You can support the work through your donations. Train young people to serve better in the congregation, share their experiences in what they have done for the kingdom.
