Congregation Book Study, September 13-19, 2021, Chapter 13, Paragraphs 15-21, Answers.

Congregation Bible Study (30 min.): Rr ch. 13 paras. 15-21.

What did the vision mean to the exiled Jews?

15. a) What was the main message of Ezekiel's prophetic vision?

In short, that Pure Worship is restored, that was the main message.

b) What contrast do we find between chapter 8 and chapters 40 to 48 of Ezekiel?

This time he was looking at details that made pure worship look at its best.

ADDITIONAL

In the 8th chapter of ezekiel there were disgusting images that were happening inside the temple of Jerusalem something that really astonished Ezekiel in the vision and without a doubt when he also transmitted it to others. On the other hand, in chapters 40 to 48 something totally different is seen now they were talking about Pure Worship in its maximum splendor the correct way to Worship Jehovah according to the Mosaic law.

16. How does Ezekiel's vision of the temple confirm what Isaiah had predicted over a hundred years earlier?

He predicted that pure worship would be restored and it would be like being on a very high mountain due to being put in its rightful place.

ADDITIONAL

In this paragraph Isaiah 2: 2 appears, where he spoke that in the final part of the days the mountain of the house of Jehovah would be far above the summit of the mountains in the case Ezekiel also predicts something similar in this regard because in Ezekiel 40:22 speaks of a very high mountain where he was standing there to observe the temple, so it had a lot to do with what Isaiah said a hundred years before with what Ezekiel was saying now.

And we can see there a drawing that is described in this paragraph 16 about the temple where it was in the vision because it was put in a very high place at the level of the clouds as it is expressed here to give that impression.

ILLUSTRATION

Aerial view of the temple of the vision of Ezekiel located on a high mountain and a river flowing out of the sanctuary.

The temple that Ezekiel saw was in a very high place. (See paragraph 16)

17. What is explained in chapters 40 to 48 of Ezekiel?

He saw an angel measuring doors, walls, walls, courtyards, and the sanctuary. Then he saw Jehovah's arrival and correction to his people. He observed a river that came out of the sanctuary and produced life and good things. There were parcel divisions and in the center there was pure worship of Jehovah.

ADDITIONAL

In chapters 40 to 42 he sees an angel who was living the doors, the walls, the walls, the courtyards and the sanctuary of the temple, on the other hand, from chapters 43 to 44 he is seeing how Jehovah corrects and guides his people very stubborn to the priests and to the chiefs, then in chapter 47 it is seen how a river leaves the sanctuary giving life and also good things throughout the entire route that reaches the dead sea, then in chapters 45 47 and 48 it is seen how the country is divided in exact parcels and in the center is the Pure worship of Jehovah, that is where this is done so this was clearly demonstrating that Jehovah was guaranteeing the restoration of Pure Worship.

And we have there a drawing also at the end of paragraph 17 about how this vision of Pure Worship and the temple at the center of it all was represented or how ezekiel may have seen this vision of Pure Worship.

ILLUSTRATION

The temple of the vision of Ezekiel, located on a high mountain, seen up close.

The temple Ezekiel saw was a glorious representation of something Jehovah would do, the restoration of pure worship. (See paragraph 17)

18. Why can't the vision of the temple be taken literally?

This temple was seen on a very high mountain. Mount Moria has other higher mountains around it. The temple occupied an area that would not fit on that mountain. There was no river flowing from the sanctuary of the temple. And the mountainous terrain did not allow a straight distribution.

ADDITIONAL

Well, first it stands out that the temple was on a very high mountain on the mountain that it really was, the Jerusalem mount or Mount Moria, it was not really so high as to become very high, because there were other mountains or higher hills than this same where the temple was originally.

It is also clearly indicated that the dimensions of that temple could not fit in the real part that they knew where the temple that Solomon built was originally, so it was impossible for those measurements to be there.

Something for which it cannot be interpreted literally is that no literal river came out of the temple sanctuary that would end in the Dead Sea and that there would heal its waters without lives, they knew perfectly that that was not possible either and as for The straight distribution of parcels or equal or equal pieces of land was also impossible, because the terrain was mountainous and it was impossible for it to do the way it was seen in Ezekiel's vision.

19-21. What effect did Jehovah want Ezekiel's vision to have on his people? And what did he do to have that effect on them?

I wanted them to be ashamed to see all the details of that temple. They had to listen to the laws and statutes, norms etc. I wanted to make it clear that it is Jehovah who sets the standards for worshiping him.

ADDITIONAL

As He indicated in verse 10, He did it to make them feel ashamed of their mistakes. He wanted them to see the details of that temple that was discussed there, to study the plans, the distribution, the exit, the entrances, and so on. Some expressions that Ezekiel constantly heard and mentioned to the people had to do with laws, statutes, norms, measure, measure and all the derivatives that came from those words, which meant that these expressions was that it was made very clear that it is Jehovah who is the one. It sets the norms to worship him and therefore, when they realized the laws and reminders of Jehovah, they were going to feel ashamed.

If we see in the drawing that is put at the end of paragraphs 19 to 21, we can see how they are reviewing the laws and regulations, and we can see there the shame they felt for not having done things Jehovah's way, and that it was precisely the effect that Jehovah wanted to cause to them to motivate them to correct themselves.

ILLUSTRATION

Why should the vision of the temple make sincere people feel ashamed? (See paragraphs 19-21).

PURE WORSHIP AND YOU

With what simpler approach are we approaching this analysis of the temple Ezekiel saw?

Do not attribute to every detail a symbolic or prophetic meaning.

ADDITIONAL

Now we do not want to attribute to each detail a symbolic or prophetic meaning as before in the book that we used many years ago in another congregation Bible study that also spoke of Ezekiel's prophecy.

Why do we no longer say that Ezekiel saw the great spiritual temple of which the Apostle Paul spoke later?

It does not fit with what the apostle Paul explained, he spoke of a holy place not made with human hands, In the spiritual temple they spoke of a single sacrifice that was of the High Priest himself (Jesus Christ) It was not the time to reveal truths of the temple about that temple.

ADDITIONAL

Because thanks to prayer and meditation with a deeper study it has come to be understood that Ezekiel's vision of the temple does not fit with what the Apostle Paul explained, for example the Apostle mentioned that there was a Holy place not made of human hands different from what Ezekiel saw.

There was also talk that in the spiritual temple there was talk of a single sacrifice that was the high priest himself, the Lord Jesus Christ, while that of Ezekiel spoke of different types of sacrifices and different people who would be benefited by those sacrifices and it was also not the time to reveal temple truths at those times so there were different situations to deal with

For Ezekiel and the other Jews in exile, what was the main message of the vision of the temple?

The restoration of pure worship.

ADDITIONAL

It was wanted to make it very clear that the restoration of the Pure Worship Jehovah would be manifested and of course all done in the manner of Jehovah according to the norms, rules and principles that he had established.
