Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021

Friday, August 27, 2021

In addition to those external things, there is concern for all congregations (2 Cor. 11:28).

The apostle Paul had many reasons to be concerned. The troubles of the brothers distressed him (2 Cor. 2: 4). There were opponents who beat him and imprisoned him. He was also concerned about having to “live on little” (Philippians 4:12). And, taking into account that he was shipwrecked at least three times, we can imagine the fear he felt every time he traveled by boat (2 Cor. 11: 23-27). What helped you? Pablo did not stop thinking about the problems of his brothers, but, being modest, he did not try to fix them by himself. He asked other trusted Christians, such as Timothy and Titus, to help him care for the congregation. There is no doubt that the work of these brothers contributed to Paul's comfort (Philippians 2:19, 20; Titus 1: 1, 4, 5). w20.02 22-23 pars. 11, 12

How can elders imitate Paul?

Let us ask for help. Today, the same thing happens to many elders as to Paul. The affection they feel for their siblings is so much that they suffer when they go through difficulties. But an old man cannot solve all problems by himself. Modesty will motivate you to ask other qualified brothers for help and to prepare young people to help you care for God's flock (2 Tim. 2: 2).

What was Paul not concerned about, and what can we learn from his example?

Let us recognize that we need comfort. Pablo was humble, so he sought the comfort of his friends. It is obvious that he was not concerned that others would consider him weak for admitting that his brothers had encouraged him. In his letter to Philemon, he said: "I was very happy and comforted to learn of your love" (Philem. 7). On another occasion, he mentioned several companions who had encouraged him greatly in times of distress (Col. 4: 7-11). If we humbly acknowledge that we need encouragement, the brethren will be happy to give it to us.

What helped Paul in times of great distress?

Let us trust the Word of God. Paul knew that the Holy Scriptures would give him comfort (Rom. 15: 4). In addition, they could also give him wisdom to face any trial (2 Tim. 3:15, 16). The second time he was imprisoned in Rome, he realized that he would soon die. What did you do in this distressing situation? He asked Timothy to come see him soon and bring him “the scrolls” (2 Tim. 4: 6, 7, 9, 13). Why? Because those scrolls probably contained parts of the Hebrew Scriptures, so you could use them for your personal study. If we, like Paul, study the Bible regularly, Jehovah will use it to reassure us, no matter what difficulties we face
