SPIRITUAL GEMS: July 19-25, 2021, Deuteronomy 16-18.
Deut 17: 7. Why did the Law require that witnesses to a sin be the first to stone the guilty? (it-1 900).
Deuteronomy 17: 7 The hand of the witnesses should be the first to rise to execute the person, and then the hand of all the people. You have to get rid of what is bad
The reason was because it would show that these witnesses were zealous for God's law and desired to maintain the purity of the congregation of Israel. At the same time, the fact that a person was punished with that sentence would be a deterrent factor not to give a false, careless or hasty testimony.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
For a person to be punished with this penalty, the evidence had to be established by the testimony of at least two witnesses. And these witnesses had to be the first to stone the culprit. Which would demonstrate his zeal for God's law and for the purity of the congregation of Israel. On the other hand, it would be a deterrent not to give a false, careless or hasty testimony.
What spiritual pearls have you found about Jehovah, the ministry, and other topics in this week's Bible reading?
Deuteronomy 16:16 The three feasts were opportunities for the Israelite "Men" or heads of households to show that they were fearful and worshipers of the true God, Jehovah. This TEACHES me: that, likewise, the "males" or heads of households They should take every opportunity to show that they want to fulfill their responsibility to "fear and worship Jehovah." He expects them to take the lead in meeting the spiritual needs of themselves and their families. Obviously, "God-fearing men" are to be commended and liked by the true God, Jehovah.
While they were joyous, they could also be called "holy convocations." It was exhilarating and enjoyable for faithful Israelite men to travel, often accompanied by their families, to Jerusalem, the place Jehovah had chosen, and they contributed generously to the three great feasts.
It is a privilege to attend a Christian meeting. Attending them is a sign of our love for Him. It is an important means of nourishing ourselves in this time of the end and strengthening our faith. In addition, we encourage each other through our well-prepared comments.
Deuteronomy 17: 18,19 According to Jehovah's standards, the king was not beyond the scope of the law, rather he was required to make a copy of it and had to set an example by reading it every day and putting it into action . This TEACHES me: that Jehovah wants those in positions of responsibility to be examples in reading and applying the standards of the Bible in their lives. This will help them maintain an appropriate view of themselves and the people in their care. Also, it teaches us how advanced and just the laws of God are since "everyone" had to comply with them and no one could go beyond them without consequences.
Even before Israel had kings, Jehovah already provided in the law that a personal copy of the sovereign's commands should be made and read every day. However, this was not a mental exercise for his memory, but for him to remember the condition of the heart that he must have to lead the people of God.
Deuteronomy 18:15 Moses told the Israelites that "Jehovah would appoint a prophet like him." In this way he was prophesying the arrival of the Messiah "the Christ, the Chosen of Jehovah." This TEACHES me: that Jehovah's prophecies are not empty promises, but accurate and reliable descriptions of future events. The exact fulfillment of this prediction should strengthen our faith and give us confidence that all other biblical prophecies will be fulfilled. Therefore, let us stay awake and be obedient, so we will have the opportunity to be witnesses of how Jehovah fulfills “all his prophecies”.
Deuteronomy 17: 2-5 Jehovah prohibited the Israelites from worshiping the sun, moon, and stars. The man or woman who did it had to be stoned to death. This TEACHES me: Jehovah's view of astrology: He condemns it. Therefore, true Christians have taken a firm stance against astrology and do not consult it occasionally or as a simple distraction or curiosity, rather, we consult the advice and norms of the Bible which is our sure guide for life now and the future.
Deuteronomy 18: 20-22 According to the law, the true prophet had to speak in the name of Jehovah, and his message was to promote pure worship. This TEACHES me: that today's traditional false prophets, fortune-tellers and oracles do not reveal or fulfill these divine requirements. His predictions are based on mystical knowledge and divination. Therefore, those prophecies are not inspired statements of divine will. The fact that they get into magic, the occult and astrology unmasks them. So let's avoid these false prophets!
Deuteronomy 17: 16-17 Jehovah warned those who would become kings not to "increase their horses" or "multiply wives", the reason was: so that their hearts would not turn aside. This TEACHES me: that we all need to be careful so that nothing in Satan's world misleads us and prevents us from serving Jehovah with a complete heart. Therefore, it is necessary to do a self-examination of our priorities, this will help us to check the state of our heart and correct it. So let us always listen to Jehovah's warnings and make sure that our hearts are united and fear his name.
Deuteronomy 18: 9-12 Moses never tires of "repeating" to the Israelites to avoid imitating the detestable practices of neighboring nations, because in Jehovah's eyes what they were doing was detestable things. The Israelites were not bothered by his repeating these reminders to them. This TEACHES me: that "repetition" is the mother of retention. That is why it is so important that we are reminded over and over of the teachings, principles, laws, commands, warnings and advice that Jehovah gives us through his word the Bible. Without a doubt, "the repetition" is a sign that Jehovah loves us and wants to help us remain faithful.
Deuteronomy 17: 17-18 When you sit on the throne of your kingdom, you must write your own copy of this Law in a book, copying it from the one kept by the Levitical priests. 19 He will stay with it and he has to read it every day of his life so that he learns to fear Jehovah his God and to obey all the words of this law and these standards by complying with them.
We can say emphatically and sincerely that every true Christian should examine the Bible for himself. It is not something you do only when you begin to study God's word with Jehovah's Witnesses. Our minds must remember that we depend on Jehovah for everything, and our hearts must always remain inclined to serve Jehovah.
Deuteronomy 17: 12-13 Also of great interest is the manner in which unreformable criminals were treated in Israel, although their crimes did not originally deserve the death penalty. If people deliberately refused to comply with the law, if they were irrevocable, they were executed.
In this way, others were discouraged from rebelling and innocents who wished to live their lives in accordance with the law were protected. So the existence of prisons in ancient Israel was not complemented.
Deuteronomy 18:18 The apostle Peter applied these words to Jesus. They both fled the killing of little boys. They came from Egypt and after a while they served Jehovah. They showed to be gentle in their dealings with others. They left behind prominent positions and much wealth.
They both became anointed by Jehovah. They fasted 40 days. They performed miracles to demonstrate to magnify Jehovah. They freed people from slavery. They were mediators of pacts.
