Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021

How many things have you done, O Jehovah my God! Your wonderful works and thoughts are many on our behalf (Ps. 40: 5).

God's servants do more than feel grateful. We express it to Jehovah with our words and actions. This distinguishes us from many people today. We live in a world where people do not appreciate all that God does for them. In fact, one sign that we are living in "the last days" is that people are ungrateful (2 Tim. 3: 1, 2). May that way of being never infect us. Jehovah wants his children to get along well with each other. Furthermore, our love for one another identifies us as true Christians (John 13:35). A servant of God wrote: "Look how good it is and what a pleasure it is that the brothers live together in unity!" (Ps. 133: 1). Don't we feel like this psalmist? When we love our brothers, we show Jehovah that we love him too. --1 John 4:20. Being part of a family of brothers who are "kind to one another" and treat each other "with tenderness and compassion" is truly wonderful (Eph. 4:32). w20.02 9 paras. 6, 7.

According to 1 John 5: 3, what is the main reason we obey Jehovah?

Jehovah expects children to obey their parents, and he also wants us to obey him (Eph. 6: 1). He deserves it because he created us, keeps us alive, and is the wisest Father there is. But the main reason we obey Jehovah is that we love him. --Read 1 John 5: 3. It is true that there are plenty of reasons to obey it, but it does not oblige us. He has given us freedom of choice, so he is glad when we choose to obey him out of love.

Why is it important to know God's standards and live by them?

Parents want their children to do well. Therefore, they set standards of conduct. Children who obey them show that they trust and respect their parents. For of much greater importance is that we know the standards of our heavenly Father and live by them. This is how we show Jehovah that we love and respect him. And as a result, life is going well for us (Isa. 48:17, 18). On the contrary, those who reject God and his standards end up hurting themselves (Gal. 6: 7, 8).

Living in a way that pleases Jehovah protects us physically, emotionally and spiritually. He knows what is best for us. A sister in the United States named Aurora says: "I know that obedience to Jehovah always results in the best life possible." And so it is in all cases. Let us ask ourselves: "How has following Jehovah's loving direction benefited me?"

How does prayer help us?

Prayer helps us to be obedient even when it is difficult for us. Because we are all sinners, sometimes we must struggle to obey Jehovah. But we have to keep doing it. A psalmist pleaded with God, "Awaken in me the desire to obey you" (Psalm 51:12). A regular pioneer named Denise says, "If I find it difficult to obey a command from Jehovah, I ask for the strength to do the right thing." Let us not doubt it: God will always answer those kinds of prayers (Luke 11: 9-13).
