Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021
Come June 18, 2021
They will find refreshment (Matt. 11:29).
Why do we find refreshment or relief when we do the work Jesus has given us to do? Because we have the best superintendents. Although Jehovah is the supreme overseer, he is not ungrateful or severe. Value the work we do (Heb. 6:10). And it gives us the strength we need to carry our burden of responsibility (2 Cor. 4: 7; Gal. 6: 5). Our King, Jesus Christ, gives us the perfect example of how to treat others (John 13:15). And the elders who shepherd us seek to imitate Jesus, the “great shepherd” (Heb. 13:20; 1 Pet. 5: 2). They go out of their way to encourage us and be kind and courageous by teaching and protecting us.
Also, we have the best co-workers. No one in this world enjoys a sense of accomplishment like the one we servants of God have or is united with his friends by a love like ours. Let's think about this: We have the honor of working with people who hold themselves to the highest moral standards, but who do not think they are better than others. They consider others to be superior to them. They do not see us as mere companions, but as friends. And they love us so much that they are willing to give their lives for us. w19.09 20 par. 1; 23 paras. 12-14
Why is the burden that Jesus invites us to carry different from other burdens that we must bear?
The burden that Jesus invites us to carry is different from other burdens that we must bear. For example, at the end of a workday, many of us not only feel exhausted, but also dissatisfied. Instead, serving Jehovah and Christ brings us deep satisfaction. After working all day we may feel very tired and have to push ourselves to go to the meeting. But don't we return home comforted and energetic? The same is true when we make the effort to go out preaching or to have our personal study. The reward we receive is worth the effort we put in.
What should we recognize, and what should we think carefully about?
We must be realistic and recognize that our energies have a limit. So we must think carefully about what we spend them on. For example, we could waste them trying to accumulate material things. Let's see what Jesus said to a rich young man who asked him what he must do to inherit eternal life.
The young man respected the Law and he sure was a good person, because the Gospel of Mark specifically says that Jesus cared for him. So he made him this invitation: "Go, sell the things you have, [...] and come, be my follower." This young man found it difficult to make a decision, but apparently his desire to follow Jesus was not so intense that he left his “many possessions” (Mark 10: 17-22). As a result, he rejected the yoke offered by Jesus and remained a slave to "the Riches" (Matt. 6:24). What decision would we have made?
