God generously forgave you through Christ (Eph. 4:32).

The Bible tells of many people whom Jehovah generously forgave. Do you remember any case? You may be thinking of King Manasseh. He was very evil and committed very serious sins against Jehovah. He promoted the worship of false gods and burned his own children in fire as a sacrifice to these gods. And he even had the nerve to put an idol in the temple of Jehovah, a holy place. The Bible says of him: “He did on a large scale what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him” (2 Chron. 33:2-7). But when Manasseh showed that he was truly repentant, Jehovah generously forgave him (2 Chron. 33:12, 13). Another case that might come to mind is that of King David, who fell into serious sins such as adultery and murder. But when David recognized his mistakes and repented from the heart, Jehovah also forgave him (2 Sam. 12:9, 10, 13, 14). So we can be sure that Jehovah really wants to forgive. w22.06 3 para. 7.

JEHOVAH'S FORGIVENESS IS INCOMPARABLE

Why is Jehovah the best judge of all, and how does that influence his forgiveness?

Jehovah is “the Judge of all the earth” (Gen. 18:25). A good judge has to know the laws thoroughly. And Jehovah meets that requirement because he is not only our Judge, but also our Lawgiver (Isa. 33:22). No one knows how to distinguish what is right from what is wrong like Jehovah. What other requirements must a good judge meet? Before passing sentence, he must be able to take into account all the important factors of a case. In this sense, there is no one as qualified to be a judge as Jehovah.

What information does Jehovah have when deciding whether or not to forgive someone?

Jehovah is not like human judges. He always knows perfectly all the factors that influence the cases that come before him (Gen. 18:20, 21; Ps. 90:8). He does not judge based only on what human beings see and hear. He understands very well how a person's actions are influenced by their DNA, their upbringing, their environment, and their mental and emotional state. Furthermore, Jehovah reads hearts, meaning he understands our motivations, intentions, and desires. He doesn't miss a single detail; everything is exposed before his eyes (Heb. 4:13). So Jehovah's forgiveness is based on a deep understanding of each situation.

Why can we say that Jehovah's decisions are always just? (Deuteronomy 32:4).

Jehovah's decisions are always just. He is completely impartial. His forgiveness never depends on a person's appearance, financial situation, social position, or abilities (1 Sam. 16:7; James 2:1-4). Jehovah cannot be pressured or bribed (2 Chron. 19:7). And he does not give in to frustration or feelings (Ex. 34:7). Without a doubt, Jehovah is the best Judge there is because his understanding of us and our circumstances is perfect. (Read Deuteronomy 32:4.)

Why is Jehovah's forgiveness incomparable?

The writers of the Hebrew Scriptures knew that Jehovah's forgiveness is incomparable. Sometimes they used a Hebrew term that, according to one reference work, “is reserved especially to denote the forgiveness granted by God to the sinner.” This work adds: “It is never used to denote that inferior kind and measure of forgiveness that is exercised by one man towards another” (Synonyms of the Old Testament, translation and adaptation by Santiago Escuain). Only Jehovah has the power to completely forgive a repentant sinner. And how do we feel when Jehovah forgives us?

What does the person who receives forgiveness from Jehovah enjoy? and Does Jehovah's forgiveness have an expiration date?

When we accept the fact that Jehovah has forgiven us, “times of relief” come to us. And that includes peace of mind and a good conscience. All this cannot come from the forgiveness that human beings give, but from that which “Jehovah himself” gives (Acts 3:19). When he forgives us, he allows us to be his friends again. It is as if we had never sinned.

After forgiving a person, Jehovah never again accuses or punishes him or her for what he or she did. (Isa. 43:25; Jer. 31:34) Jehovah places his sins “as far as the east is from the west” (Ps. 103:12).b Thinking of the immensity of his forgiveness awakens in us gratitude and reverence (Ps. 130:4). But who does Jehovah forgive in this way?
