Friday November 4
He will show no respect for the God of his fathers. Instead, she will give glory to the god of fortresses (Dan. 11:37, 38).
According to this prophecy, the king of the north did not show "respect for the God of his fathers." How? The Soviet Union attempted to nullify the power of traditional religious organizations with the goal of completely ending religions. For that reason, as early as 1918 the Soviet government had issued an order that led to atheism being taught in schools. And how did he give “glory to the god of fortresses”? He spent huge amounts of money in order to strengthen his army and produced thousands of nuclear weapons to increase his influence. Over time, the King of the North and the King of the South amassed enough weaponry to annihilate billions of people. The king of the north and the king of the south have cooperated in an important initiative: to place "the disgusting and devastating thing," that is, the United Nations (Dan. 11:31). w20.05 6, 7 paras. 16, 17.
What did the king of the north and the king of the south do during World War I?
From 1914 onward, the two kings redoubled their attacks on each other and on God's people. For example, in World War I, both the German and British governments persecuted God's servants who refused to fight. And, in fulfillment of the prophecy of Revelation 11:7-10, the US government jailed those who were leading the preaching.
What did the king of the north do in the 1930s and during World War II?
Later, in the 1930s and especially during World War II, the king of the north attacked God's people without mercy. When the Nazi party came to power, Hitler and his supporters banned our work. These enemies killed hundreds of Jehovah's servants and sent thousands more to concentration camps. And Daniel had prophesied it. He said that the king of the north would profane "the sanctuary" and remove "the constant sacrifice," meaning that he would forbid preaching (Dan. 11:30b, 31a). Its leader, Hitler, even swore that he would exterminate God's people in Germany.
Who took on the role of the king of the north after WWII, and how do we know?
After World War II, the communist government of the Soviet Union took control of the vast territories it had taken from Germany. Like the totalitarian Nazi government, the Soviet Union and its allies fiercely opposed anyone who put the worship of the true God above absolute obedience to the state, thus becoming the king of the north.
What did the king of the north do after World War II ended?
Shortly after World War II ended, the new king of the north—the Soviet Union and its allies—attacked God's people. Revelation 12:15-17 compares this persecution to "a river." In accordance with this prophecy, the king of the north prohibited the preaching work and sent thousands of Jehovah's servants into exile. In fact, over the course of the last few days, the king of the north has continued to persecute God's people more and more, but he has never been able to stop his work.
